Bucks outlast Beavers 5-2 to pick up conference road victory

LAKE VILLAGE - It wasn't pretty, but Smackover will take it.

Josh Saulsbury pitched six solid innings, as the Bucks knocked off Lake Village 5-2 in a Class 3A-4A District 12 contest Tuesday.

Saulsbury limited the Beavers to just two hits and two runs with only one run being earned to pick up the victory.

He walked six and struck out eight.

Both of the hits Saulsbury allowed were singles.

Noah Wilson struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save.

Offensivel­y, the Bucks (9-13, 6-4) were held to just three hits, but took advantage of several walks.

Braden Doherty drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the second for Smackover's first run.

Smackover then scored twice in the third.

With runners at second and third, an errant pickoff throw allowed Tucker Evans, who reached after getting hit by a pitch, to score.

Alex Burris, who had walked, later scored on a two-out base hit by Cade Schibler.

Baylor Brumley collected an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, and the Bucks manufactur­ed their final run in the seventh.

Nick Impson singled and stole both second and third base, scoring on a throwing error on his heist of third base to end the Bucks' scoring.

Saulsbury went 1-for-2 to account for Smackover's third hit.

The Bucks will play at Fordyce today in a conference showdown.
