Little Miss Arkansas Pageant to be held May 26

The Little Miss Arkansas Pageant will be held May 26 at the Hotel Hot Springs in Hot Springs. The deadline to enter is May 18.

The pageant is open to any Arkansas girl up to age 17. There are five age divisions with a winner and two alternates in each. There is also photogenic and talent competitio­n. The contestant­s compete in casual wear and pageant dress.

Special event set for Saturday for Autism Awareness Month

A special event Saturday in Smackover invites parents of any “special needs” children to attend and share resources in an effort to form a network for providers and parents.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, at 109 W. 8th St. in Smackover, each organizati­on present will make a presentati­on of 10 minutes or less to help share informatio­n about available resources for parents, caregivers and children.

Local election forum to be held Monday

The Union County NAACP and the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce will hold a candidates forum Monday at the SouthArk College Library Auditorium.

The forum will focus on two races, starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Democratic primary for Union County tax collector, which is a race between incumbent Paula Beard and challenger Karen Scott. Because there is no Republican candidate, the race will be decided in the May 22 primary.

Immediatel­y following will be the Republican candidates for El Dorado mayor: incumbent Frank Hash and challenger­s Bill Luther and Chris Lutman. The winner of the May 22 primary will face Democrat Veronica Creer-Smith in the November general election.
