James Beard winner added as chef for Southern Food & Wine Festival
The Murphy Arts District has announced that a James Beard Foundation winner will join the Southern Food & Wine Festival as a chef for the dinner on May 4.
Steven Satterfield is the executive chef and co-owner of Miller Union, an award-winning, seasonally-driven restaurant in Atlanta. In 2015, Satterfield released his first cookbook, “Root to Leaf,” to broad critical acclaim. In 2017, after four previous nominations Satterfield was named “Best Chef: Southeast” by the James Beard Foundation. Satterfield’s dedication to seasonal cooking and his unwavering support for local farmers is the driving philosophy behind his restaurant.
The Southern Food & Wine Festival’s dinner on May 4 will include a five-course dinner prepared by visiting chefs from around the country working with master sommeliers to create food and wine pairings. The dinner will be followed by a concert by The Tepusquet Tornados.
On May 5, the festival will continue with the Grand Tasting event in the MAD Amphitheater from 3-6 p.m. with more than 100 wines being offered, as well as workshops, free music and food trucks available on site.
Tickets for both day’s programming can be purchased in person at the MAD box office, via phone at 877-940-3334 or online at www. eldoMAD.com.
The May 4 dinner is $175 per person and the May 5 Grand Tasting event is $20 per person.
Musical performances include a May 4 evening concert by The Tepusquet from Santa Maria Valley, California. Patrons interested in seeing The Tepusquet Tornados but not attending the special dinner can still see the band for a $10 ticket.
On May 5, free performances will feature Emily Cole with Matt Benson, Trey Johnson and recording artist Maggie Koerner.
Separately, there will be a Jason Isbell concert in the Griffin Music Hall on May 5. For more information, visit eldomad.com.
