Smith leads Trojans to district title; Lady Trojans take second

MONTICELLO - Parkers Chapel’s Brian Smith claimed the high point award Wednesday as he led the Trojans to the boys championship in the 2A 7-East District Track & Field Meet. The Lady Trojans finished as the runners-up in the girls division.

The Trojans totaled 199 points to outdistance Harmony Grove (183), Rison (94), Lafayette County (58), Bearden (57) and Spring Hill (34).

“This has been a special group,” said PC coach Steven Bates. “They work hard every day and keep pushing the envelope of how good they can be. These young men have earned every bit of the success they have achieved.”

Parkers Chapel’s boys brought home six firstplace individual performances and won all three relays.

Smith, a senior, led the way, winning the long jump (21-07), 110 hurdles (17.78) and 300 hurdles

(42.13).

Brendan Winchester won the 400 in a time of 53.91 to remaining unbeaten this season. He was also second in the 200, third in the triple jump and fourth in the 100.

Austin Massey was first in the 800 with a time of 2:20.25. Michael Brotherton won the 3,200 in a time of 12:37.94.

Canon Morgan finished second in the high jump, second in the 400 and sixth in the long jump. Amari Bell was second in the shot.

Caleb Jacobs was second in the pole vault and fifth in the 400.

Amonta Harris was second in the 110 hurdles, fifth in the 100 and eighth in the 200.

Dawson Goodwin was second in the 1,600 and third in the 800. Hunter Palculict was second in the 800.

Korbin McAuliffe was second in the 3,200. Preston Stivender was third in the 1,600 and eighth in the 800.

Harris, Morgan, Winchester and Treyvon Jamerson teamed up to win the 4x100.

Morgan, Smith, Winchester and Palculict won the 4x400. Goodwin, Smith, Palculict and Stivender won the 4x800.

Parkers Chapel’s girls totaled 133 points to finish behind Bearden, which won with 145. Spring Hill (128), Rison (76), Harmony Grove (70) and Lafayette County (60) rounded out the girls results.

The Lady Trojans took first place in four individual events.

“I’m very proud of the progress the girls have made this year,” said Bates. “We have a lot of young talent but our seniors really stepped up and gave us a spark today.”

Sophomore Jana Avery won the 3,200 in a time of 15:17.15 and the 1,600 with a time of 6:45.26.

She was third in the 800. Ali Looney won the 800 with a time of 2:46.22. Savanna Slaughter won the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.55. She was fourth in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the long jump.

Halley Evers finished second in the 100 hurdles, third in the long jump, fifth in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Macie Wood was second in the 1,600 and eighth in the 800.

Terra Kate Burson was third in the shot.

Drue Thomas was third in the 400, seventh in the 100 and seventh in the long jump.

Hannah Barbaree and Ciara Pharr finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,600. Makenna Greer was sixth in the 100.
