South Arkansas Symphony to host So’nata Ball

Special to the News-Times

The South Arkansas Symphony has announced the first annual So’nata Ball, a fundraising event to benefit the Symphony’s 62nd season.

This year, instead of rolling out the red carpet for a formal event with high-price tickets and a huge budget for all the trimmings, participants are invited to stay home instead and enjoy the most comfortable fundraiser they will ever participate in.

The aptly named So’nata Ball will be so not a night to get dressed up, so not a night to hire a babysitter, so not a night to leave the comforts of your home all while supporting the arts in South Arkansas simply by making a donation to this worthy cause. Donors are encouraged to skip the prepping, planning and shopping usually associated with gala events like this. There will be no long buffet lines, no awkward conversations, no impulsive bidding on auction items – just an evening spent however you so choose.

According to conductor Kermit Poling, the So’nata Ball is an easy but important non-event to support.

“Despite the imaginary atmosphere surrounding the ball, what is absolutely real is the urgent need for your donation to ensure the future of our outstanding South Arkansas Symphony,” Poling said.

Patrons who would prefer to get dressed up for a night out with the Symphony will have that opportunity, as donors of $250 and more will be invited to attend a champagne reception following the May 12 Shades of America concert, and will be entered for a chance to win a Murphy USA gas card or the opportunity to conduct at the popular Symphony on the Square on May 26.

“This is an opportunity for a lucky person to experience a few minutes of how great it feels to be in front of our symphony,” Poling said. “The Symphony on the Square is the perfect concert for a debut.”

The Symphony is accepting donations for the So’nata Ball through Wednesday. Those interested can pick up a donation form from the Symphony offices, 111 W. Cedar St., suite A, or donate online through PayPal at eldomad.com/event/sonata-ball.
