Trojans knock off Spring Hill

POYEN - Parkers Chapel stormed out of the gates early, scoring six runs in the first and three more in the second, as the Trojans downed Spring Hill 14-4 to win the 2A South Regional Tournament Saturday.

Five players had multihit games for the Trojans (25-7), who beat the Bears for the second time in three games this year.

Parkers Chapel, the No. 1 seed from the 7-2A East, enters the state tournament as one of the hottest teams in the state regardless of class, having won 19 of their last 21 games.

Trace Shoup led the hit parade by going 2-for3 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Trojans, who banged out 13 hits in the win.

Tyler Martin was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, which was his seventh in the tournament.

Reid Cates scored four runs, going 2-for-4, while Reece Griffin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Thomas Hardy was the final Trojan with two hits, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Carson Worthey finished a terrific tournament performanc­e by driving in two runs and scoring two runs along with a double. He finished with six RBIs in the tournament.

Jordan Arrington was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Austin Looney went 1-for3 with two RBIs to round out the Trojans’ attack.

Michael Brotherton turned in a sterling performanc­e in relief, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. He allowed two hits, didn’t issue any walks and struck out three.

Parkers Chapel has a first-round bye at the state tournament, and will begin play in the quarterfin­als at 10 a.m. Friday.
