Walter E. Scott passed away on May 19, 2018, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

He was born on August 19, 1936, in Norphlet to Sam and Ruth Scott. He attended school in Norphlet, graduating in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Bertha Smith, in 1957. After graduation, he worked for paper mills that were starting up in the 60s and 70s. He began his tenure with the paper mills at Internatio­nal Paper in Pine Bluff where he worked for 10 years. He eventually settled in McGehee where he and his wife, Bertha, retired from Potlatch (now Clearwater Paper) after 30 years. After retiring Walter and Bertha moved to Smackover to be closer to friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul, Raymond and Harold, and sisters Nell, Pat and Estelle.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bertha Scott of Smackover, his children, Sammy Scott (and wife Melissa) of Smackover and Kellie Scott of Tallahasse­e, Florida, and his sister, Alene Howard of Norphlet. He loved his dogs and would take in all strays. He will be greatly missed by Bear, Mike, Molly, Pepper and, most of all, his Yorkie Scooter.

Graveside services at Rest Haven Memorial gardens will be 10 am Tuesday, May 22, 2018 with Rev. Eddie Holt officiatin­g under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the John R. Williamson Hospice House, 2301 Champagnol­le Road, El Dorado, AR 71730 or UCAPs (Union County Animal Protection). 1000 Sunset Road, El Dorado.
