City Arrests

• Tony L. Cobb, 32, of 1133 N. Highland, was arrested May 20 for simultaneo­us possession of drugs and firearm, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm by a certain person, possession of cocaine, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of drug parapherna­lia and a misdemeano­r charge of possession of a controlled substance. Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersecti­on of Faulkner and Thompson after running a license plate check on a vehicle that was traveling north on College and learning that the automobile insurance had been canceled for the vehicle. While speaking with police, Cobb, the driver, told officers there was a partial marijuana joint inside his vehicle. Using a police dog, officers conducted a check for narcotics and said the dog gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Cobb was taken into custody after officers recovered the marijuana joint and a handgun from the vehicle. During a search incident to arrest, police removed a bag of marijuana from Cobb’s front, right pocket. Inside the trunk of Cobb’s car, police found a Ziploc bag and a small plastic jar that both contained marijuana. Three cellphones, a set of digital scales and a glass pipe that is commonly used for smoking were also inside the Ziploc bag, police said. A secondary search of Cobb’s person yielded the discovery of powder cocaine in his left cargo pocket, according to a police report. Cobb was also cited for a cracked windshield.

• Jayveion J. Moody, 17, of 1133 N. Highland, and a 15-year-old boy, also of of El Dorado, were arrested May 19 in connection to a vehicle theft that was reported in the 1200 block of Trinity. A woman told police that someone stole her white, 2000 Nissan Altima, from her residence. Another woman later reported that she had spotted the vehicle and was following it in the area of Rock Island Right of Way and Short Wilson. Police caught up to the car at the intersecti­on of Beech and Texas streets and initiated a traffic stop. They said the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police noted they immediatel­y recognized the driver, Moody, and they apprehende­d both suspects after a brief foot chase. The boys were transporte­d to the Faulkner County Juvenile Detention Facility. According to a police report, the 15-year-old boy told police he did not know the name of the driver, and when presented with Moody’s name, the teen said it was not the name of the driver. Both boys were charged with theft by receiving. Moody was arrested on two counts of theft by receiving, and the younger boy faces an additional charge of obstructio­n of government­al operations. Both were scheduled to appear in the Union County Juvenile Probation Office on May 23. Moody also appeared in 35th Judicial District Court, and he is scheduled for a second appearance on June 18 on a traffic citation for no driver’s license.

City Reports

• An El Dorado man is wanted for failure to comply with registrati­on and reporting requiremen­ts. Robert T. Leveritt Jr., 38, of 1312 Louisiana, was arrested

• A woman told police on May 24 that someone fraudulent­ly used her identity to purchase four cellphones from Sprint, adding there is a delinquent balance on the account.

• Police responded twice — May 24 and 23 — to reports of a burglary at a residence in the 1000 block of North Park. Reported missing were a handgun, box of checks, TV, three DVD players, satellite receiver boxes, three gold rings and other jewelry, two BB guns, a small radio, and various tools. The complainan­t told officers that a plastic container that was found inside the residence did not belong there. A witness reported hearing a loud bang between 3 and 4 a.m. on May 24, but she did not see anyone in the area.

• On May 23, a man reported the theft of four window air conditione­rs from a house he owns in the 900 block of West Faulkner.

• An employee of O’Reilly Auto Parts, 208 W. Hillsboro, told police on May 23 that someone forged a check in the amount of $347.50. The employee said the purchase was made on May 12, and he learned of the fraud the following day when he was contacted by the Bearden Police Department. Bearden authoritie­s said the check had been reported stolen there, the O’Reilly employee said.

• A man told police on May 23 that someone stole three fishing poles from the bed of his pickup truck at his residence in the 900 block of West Oak. A fourth fishing pole was broken and laying in the street, he said.

• On May 22, police responded to a report of a residentia­l burglary in the 1300 block of Woodland. The complainan­t said several items had been disturbed. No items were reported missing, and police said there were no signs of forced entry into the residence.

• A woman told police on May 22 that what is believed to be a fraudulent moving company stole items from her residence in the 200 block of Sunset Road. The woman said “employees” of the company, Unified Van Lines, loaded up the items on Feb. 15 and gave her a receipt saying that the items would be placed in storage. She said the receipt did not list a location for a storage

facility. She said she later contacted a company with a similar name, United Van Lines, and an employee there told her the company had received several complaints about Unified Van Lines, which allegedly mimicked United in order to steal items from unsuspecti­ng customers. According to a police report, the United employee said fraud committed by Unified was previously covered by a national television news service. The woman said an officer with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office in Springfiel­d, Missouri, contacted her on May 22 and informed her that her items had been found in a warehouse in Springfiel­d as a result of a seizure by law enforcemen­t. The woman said she was then advised to report the incident to local police.

• Police were called at 8:05 a.m. on May 22 to Rainbow Food Mart, 1010 S. Washington in reference to a robbery. An employee told officers that the suspect had fled behind some nearby houses. Police said they saw the suspect running in the area, but did not initiate a pursuit because they did not know if the suspect was armed. The Rainbow employee said the suspect attempted to purchase several items and asked for cigars while checking out. He said the suspect became “aggressive” when he told the suspect he did not have enough money to purchase the items. The suspect then reportedly swiped the cigars and ran from the business, dropping the cigars on the floor. The employee said the suspect remained on the property after exiting the store, and when he told the suspect to leave, the suspect issued terroristi­c threats. Employees said the suspect made gestures indicating that he had a gun, but they did not report seeing a gun. Police said the suspect was identified.

• A woman told police on May 22 that someone broke into her residence in the 800 block of North College and stole a TV.

• A 17-year-old girl told police on May 21 that her ex-boyfriend, also 17, choked her and produced a handgun during the alleged assault. She said the suspect removed the gun from his pocket, but did not point it at her. The girl said the incident occurred at the boy’s residence in the 1200 block of Detroit. On May 19, the girl said she and the boy were sitting in her car at the boy’s residence two days prior when he grabbed her by the throat twice during an argument. After grabbing her first time, the boy exited the vehicle, reached through the driver’s side window and grabbed her throat again, the girl said. When she pulled away, he produced a handgun and pointed it at her. The girl said she then drove away.

• A woman told police on May 21 that a woman she knew issued a terroristi­c threat against her and her children. She said the suspect is her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend. The complainan­t’s boyfriend told police the previous day that the suspect threatened him with a handgun and broke a window in his girlfriend’s vehicle, which was parked at his residence in the 1000 block of West Eighth. He said he when he went outside, he saw suspect running away from his girlfriend’s vehicle, carrying a baseball bat. He said she got into an SUV but “jumped out” seconds later with a handgun. He said she then raised the pistol and threatened to kill him. He said the suspect fled the scene in the SUV as he was calling police. Police said that while they wee investigat­ing the matter, the suspect sent her ex-boyfriend several threatenin­g text messages.

• A man reported on May 21 the theft of an exterior air conditione­r unit from residentia­l property he owns in the 700 block of East Main. The man identified a possible suspect.

• On May 21, a man told police that another man issued a terroristi­c threat during an argument in the 1400 block of South Jackson Avenue.

• A woman reported on May 21 that someone stole her wallet from her vehicle at her residence in the 600 block of West Second. She said the wallet contained her driver’s license and four Social Security cards. She noted that the doors were unlocked at the time of the theft. Police said the doors were open on several other vehicles in the area. Police said they spoke with the owners of the vehicles, and none reported any missing items.

• A couple told police on May 19 that a man they know has been threatenin­g and harassing them. The couple said the man has threatened to shoot them, sent them threatenin­g text messages, and driven past their residence in the 700 block of West Fifth several times. The wife told officers that the suspect had come to the residence on May 19 inquiring about the whereabout­s of her husband.

• A man told police on May 19 that someone broke into his residence in the 700 block of Russell Avenue and stole $200 cash and several pieces of jewelry. He also said two items that were in the backyard had been removed from the house.

• On May 19, officers responded to a domestic disturbanc­e at a residence in the 300 block of Julia. Police said they received conflictin­g informatio­n about the incident. A woman told officers that she was asleep when she began yelling due to pain caused by a medical condition. She said her ex-boyfriend poured milk on her and began screaming at her, telling her to “shut up.” She said an argument ensued, and he choked her and struck her with the back of his hand. She said he then pressed her against the door while holding her by the throat. She said she waited until he left for work to call police. Police spoke with the woman’s ex-boyfriend, and he said he was awakened by the woman pouring milk on him. He said he asked her to leave the residence and sat her belongings outside, noting that she had been banned from his residence. He said he locked the door when she went outside to retrieve her belongings. He said she was still on the property when he left for work, and he denied striking or choking her.
