Funeral for Marion B. Watley, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the New Hopewell Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana, with the Rev. Greg Williams as pastor/officiant. Before the service, at 10:30 a.m. the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will perform a memorial ceremony. Interment will follow at the New Hopewell Cemetery. Obituaries JO ANN ANDREWS BOTTOMS

It is with great sadness that the family of Jo Ann Andrews Bottoms announces her passing in Austin, Texas following a lengthy illness on June 27, 2018 at the age of 83 years.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1934 in El Dorado, Arkansas, to the late Carl Sherman Andrews and Floy Elizabeth Richardson. Jo Ann was named Most Beautiful by her classmates her senior year in high school. The late Jimmy Wayne

Bottoms became her husband on June 4, 1955. They were together for 48 years before he passed away on August 5, 2002.

Jo Ann will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Michael Wayne Bottoms and his wife Cami of Frisco, Texas, their children Madison and Mikaela, one daughter, Leslee Garrard and her daughter Mallorie and husband Justin and one precious great granddaugh­ter, Mackenzie Rae Gary of Lafayette, her nephew, Dr. James R. Miears, Jr. and his wife Debby and their daughters Amanda and Heather of Bellingham, Washington, one niece, Melinda Elizabeth Taylor and her son Zachary Miears Taylor of Bentonvill­e and Fayettevil­le, her sister, Jean Andrews Miears and her husband Jim of El Dorado.

Jimmy and Jo Ann made their home in El Dorado for all their life together. He was a self-employed forester. Jo Ann was a homemaker who loved to cook and take care of her family. She was an active member of the Second Baptist Church for 60 years. She served as an adult Sunday school teacher for many of those years. Jo Ann also sang in the church choir. Her life was one of service. She cared for her aging grandparen­ts, her husband who was ill for 11 years and finally her mother for the last 7 years of her life. After her mother’s death, Jo Ann moved to Park Meadows, a lovely senior apartment complex in Round Rock, Texas to be near her daughter and her son. She enjoyed her long awaited retirement.

Visitation will be held at Young’s Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018.

A celebratio­n of Jo Ann’s life will be held at Young’s Funeral Home on Saturday, June 30, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Brian Trostle officiatin­g. A private burial service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial donations be made in Jo Ann’s name to Christophe­r’s House Hospice, 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., Austin, Texas 78702. Jo Ann’s family would like to thank the staff of Christophe­r’s House Hospice for the loving care she received.

Evorn Lockett, 92, of El Dorado died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at MCSA. She was born on July 2, 1925 in Summerfiel­d, Louisiana to Lewis Traylor and Mattie

She retired as a cook with the

El Dorado Public

Schools. She was a member of Douglas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Golden Girls Sunday School class and the Women’s Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Amos Lockett. Survivors are two sons, David (Cynthia) Lockett of El Dorado and Thomas (Debra) Lockett of Texarkana; one daughter, Florence Lockett of El Dorado; two brothers, Bonnie (FAYE) Buggs, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Willie J. (Sharman) Buggs of Carson, California; two sisters, Julia F. (Clifford ) Payne of El Dorado and Bettye J. (Thomas) Ridgell of Carson,C alifornia; nine grandchild­ren; 17 great grandchild­ren and five great great grandchild­ren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Douglas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. D.L. Hegler officiatin­g. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Summerfiel­d, Louisiana under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. Public viewing will be from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday.

RONALD K. PIPKIN

Ronald Keith “Ronnie” Pipkin, 72, left his diabetes ravaged body behind and walked straight and tall through Heaven’s gates in the early hours of this Father’s Day

Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born on Oct. 27, 1945 to Daniel Woodrow and Kathleen Keith Pipkin in Santa Barbara, California.

Ron graduated from El Dorado High School in 1963 and in 1969 earned his Undergradu­ate Degree in Psychology from Southern Arkansas University. In 1975 he started his career at the South Arkansas Regional Health Center Psychiatri­c Program as the activity therapist in the Camden facility. Later he became DWI Instructor for Ouachita, Columbia and Union Counties. In 1978 he received his Master’s Degree from Louisiana Tech University after which he found his niche for the next eighteen years as Director of the Recovery Center for Alcohol and Drug Addictions in El Dorado. With his counseling skills he had a profound effect on many lives in South Arkansas.

As a young man Ron traveled the world in search of new adventures. He was deeply interested in learning and experienci­ng different cultures of the world, and made many life-long friends along the way. He was an avid sports fan and an especially fierce fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks.

He was a throwback to the 60’s, a master of trivia and a charming source of dry wit and sarcastic humor. He was a kind soul, a loyal friend and a charismati­c gentleman.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and brothersin-law, David Shipp and Jeff “Hollywood” Hall.

He will be missed by his daughter, Devin Smith, of El Dorado and son, Adam Adams (Pam) of Elgin, Texas and grandchild­ren, Hillary Adams, William Adams and Grace Adams. Also surviving are sisters, Sherry Nuijten (Dutch) of Leesburg, Florida, Becky Richards (Lee) of Dallas, Texas, and Judi Shipp Hall (David) of El Dorado. He also leaves behind nephews, Brian Bachman (Christine) of Alonquin, Illinois and Jared Shipp (Melissa) of El Dorado and nieces, Katie Huber (John) of Denver, Colorado, Lindsey Shipp Hall (Jason) Benton, Louisiana, and Kirbi Richards of Dallas, Texas, plus several cousins and great nieces, Alyssa, Lorna, Tessa, Shona, Jayda and Eliza along with great nephews, Baz, Leo, Aiden, Obi and a very special dog, Shemp.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Janice Smith for providing excellent care and support these past two years as Ron battled the effects of his illness. Also, to the Rev. Winston Roden, Phillip Blackwell and a host of other class mates, neighbors and friends for their unwavering emotional support. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of John R. Williamson Hospice House who are truly God’s angels on earth.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 pm, June 29, 2018 at Young’s Funeral Directors. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with the Rev. Winston Roden officiatin­g. The family will receive guest beginning at 2 p.m. until service time at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date at Arlington Memorial Park.
