James Nathan Barton, of Huttig, formerly of El Dorado, died on Thursday, July 5th, from an aggressive cancer.

Dorado on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

James was born in Warren, on Nov. 11, 1953. He was the middle son of Viola and John Barton of Vick, (later of El Dorado). He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Martha, a grandson, Brandon Deal and a step-daughter, Teresa Dixon McPeak.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cathy Thompson Barton, sons James Allen Barton (Sarah), Nathan Grant Barton and Stephen Glenn Barton, daughter Rae Lynn Barton Deal (Chad), step-children Laura Nicholson and Beau Brown. He is also survived by his brothers Doug Barton and Mark Barton (Janice). Jim’s joy in life was seeing his grandchild­ren, Garrett and Joshua Deal, Matthew and Miranda Barton and Everleigh Nicholson. He will also be missed by his little dog Becca whom he loved dearly.

Jim was a 1972 graduate of El Dorado High School, and graduated from Lyon College in 1975 (then Arkansas College) with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematic­s.

He worked as a laboratory technician for Great Lakes Chemical (now Lanxess) for 29 years. Jim was also a prolific writer, especially of poetry. He had published one book of his poetry and four chapbooks of poetry. Another book was in progress at the time of his death. He was a member and treasurer of the Poets Roundtable of Arkansas, member of the South Arkansas Poets of the Pines and was the former President of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

ROBERT C. BROWN JR.

R.C. Brown, Jr., 81, of El Dorado, passed away, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Baptist Medical Health

Center in

Little Rock.

He was born Feb.

He retired from Lion Oil, Co., after 30 plus years as an E/I supervisor. While an hourly employee he was active in the IOUE #381 serving in several different positions. R.C. loved spending time with his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and working except on Saturday while the Razorbacks were playing. R.C. loved the Lord and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death are his parents; four half-brothers, J.B. Honeycutt, H.F. Box, Lester Box, Chester Box; and daughter, Cynthia Ellyn Brown Saulsbury.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Martha Strickland Brown; son, Robert C. “Trey” Brown III (Sonya); sister, Nellie Brown McDonald all of El Dorado; two grandchild­ren, Robert “Quade” Brown, IV, Gage Brown, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Young’s.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Meeks and the Rev. Eddie Anderson officiatin­g. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

George, in Heaven. There she will have no more tears, but only smiles and laughter as they continue their marriage of over 65 years and rejoice in being together again. Mom and Dad were rarely apart and spent their life caring for family, building houses, spending over 20 years in retirement living on Lake Hamilton, and being wonderful examples of parents, grand and great grandparen­ts to our large family. They leave us to cherish their memory and preserve a lifetime of more adventures and stories than could be told in a volume of books. From the farm, to moves to new start-up mills, to the lake they continued to strive to provide a great life to us. To teach us right from wrong, that faith in God will hold and keep you in good and bad times, and to respect and be kind to all.

Mom is survived by two sons, Mike Finley and his wife Nancy of Hope, Dennis Finley and his wife Louanne of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a daughter, Angela Rose of Hot Springs, grandchild­ren Tom, Brandy, Chris, Kyle, Tyler, Aiden and Kiernan and eight great-grandchild­ren.

CAPT. BAKER L. PEEBLES

Capt. Baker L. Peebles USN. (Ret), age 88, of Hermitage died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his home. He was born March 25th, 1930 in Dumas, a son of the late Lawrence Peebles and Maurice Baker Peebles.

He was a graduate of the Portland Public Schools System, attended the University of the Ozarks College where he was the first graduating Pharmacy class of 1952, and he retired from Pharmacy at Gannaway Drug Store in 2016. Baker spent his career as a Commander in the United States Navy with 26 years of service. In the Navy he served in Vietnam, he was one of few men to ever have five different commands in his career serving under Admiral Tidd and Admiral Zumwalt. Baker commanded Naval bases in the Barbados British West Indies, San Salvador, Bamahas, the Naval Reserve Station in Camden. He was Commander of recruiting in Little Rock, AR from 1972 till 1974, where he had the highest recruiting class in the nation, and his last Duty Command was in Argentia, Newfoundla­nd Canada. Baker served two years in the Pentagon, Washington DC, working with the Joints Chief of Staff. Baker graduated the Navy Command and Staff Center in Newport, Rhode Island, he graduated the National War College, Class of 1974 in Washington, DC. In his career he received numerous awards for his service, Navy Commendati­on Medal w/1 Gold Star, Defense Meritoriou­s Service Medal, Meritoriou­s Service Medal with two Gold Stars, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Citation (Gallantry Cross) Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Color with Palm, Meritoriou­s Unit Commendati­on w/1 Bronze Star. Baker was a 33rd -degree Master Mason, serving in Lodge 264 of Hermitage, and Smackover. He received the Pillar of Solomon Award, was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Lyons Club, the Rotary Club of Warren, AR and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hermitage.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Hodges Peebles, whom he married December 25, 1952 in Smackover. Two sons, Larry Peebles and spouse Becky Anthony, Wynne, and Jeff Peebles and spouse Annette, Hermitage. A daughter Mandy Miles, Norphlet. Six grandchild­ren Missy Hodges, George Miles, Michael Peebles, Lena Peebles, David Peebles and James Peebles, Jr. Three great-grandchild­ren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Frazer’s Chapel. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery with Military Honors by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at Frazer’s. Online guestbook www.frazerfune­ralhome.com.

JAMES T. WELCH

James Thomas “Jim” Welch, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 6, 2018.

Jim was born November

Welch. He graduated from

Junction City High School in 1958. He then proudly served his country in the Army for 4 years. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Uyvonne Sweet, in 1967. They had 2 children.

Jim was the “Lance Man”

for 25 years. After retiring from Lance Snack Company, he worked in maintenanc­e at Pilgrim’s Pride until his retirement in 2008. He continued to stay busy by volunteeri­ng at Junction City Elementary School and working as a courier for MidSouth Pharmacy Associates in El Dorado.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking and sharing all the goodies he made, and traveling. His true love was God. He was

most happy when he was sharing his testimony, and telling others about Jesus. He was a true Christian man, who loved the Lord and showed it by loving others. He never met a stranger, and you were always part of the family. He was a member of Blanchard Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer for many years. He always sat in the front row, and he loved making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Welch; and his nephew,

Mark Welch. He is survived by his love of 50 years, Uyvonne Welch, his son, John Welch and wife Marla; his daughter, Angela Smith and husband Christophe­r, grandson, Cameron Reynolds; three granddaugh­ters, Kimber Welch, Liana Reynolds, and Tori Reynolds; and three great granddaugh­ters, Ella, Callie, and Luci, as well as a large number of extended family and friends.

A celebratio­n of Jim’s life

and love for his Savior will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Blanchard Springs Baptist Church in Junction City, Arkansas at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the memorial service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in his honor to the Blanchard Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
