Drillers knock out Arkadelphi­a in Junior Zone 4

The El Dorado Drillers got off to a successful start by topping Arkadelphi­a 8-5 at the Arkansas American Legion Junior Zone 4 Tournament Sunday night at the El Dorado-Union County Recreation Complex.

The Drillers faced Texarkana late Monday night with the winner clinching a spot in the state tournament.

The Drillers scored five runs in the second to take a commanding lead, and Chase Webb and two relievers made it stand up.

Webb allowed four runs with three being earned in five innings of work to pick up the win. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out four.

Landon Rainwater allowed an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout in one inning of work, and Tyler Martin picked up the save with two strikeouts and a walk in working a scoreless seventh.

Martin also made his presence felt at the plate by driving in two runs with a base hit as part of the Drillers’ uprising in the second.

Martin scored two runs and had a walk while going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Baylor Brumley, who drew two walks in the win, also had a two-run single in the second for the Drillers.

Reed Stone was the third Driller to drive in two runs, finishing 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base.

Webb was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while Jacob Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

Nathan Baker was 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI, while Tanner McLelland finished 1-for-2 with a run scored to round out the Drillers’ offense.
