Smackover Motors does it again!

Wins President’s Award for 17th time

-

It’s a big deal

Winning the highest honor by a company, that 118 years ago began the successful mass production of automobiles most anyone could afford, is a significant accomplishment. To win that honor 17 times is a really big deal.

In March of 2018, Smackover Motors did just that — something no other Ford dealership in the state of Arkansas has ever done, they received the Ford Motor Company President’s Award for the seventeenth time. Only 10 per cent of all Ford dealerships nationwide achieve such designation for top performance and exhibiting quality business practices.

A history of sound business practice

James Langley became the sole owner of Smackover Motors in 1976 beginning a long tradition of success in South Arkansas. Langley credits much of the success of the dealership to his employees, most of which have been with him anywhere from 2 to 42 years. He hand picked and surrounded himself with great employees who knew the importance of customer service. “People are the backbone of any great organization; they can either make you or break you — if you select them wisely you will always be successful,” he said in a recent interview.

Looking to the future

Son, Jimmy began washing cars at the dealership when he was 11 years-old and literally grew up in the business and is carrying on the traditions laid down by his dad. He now is a partner and runs the day-to-day operations as General Manager and Vice-President.

Putting customers first

While winning awards is important, there is nothing more important at Smackover Motors than taking care of customers.

Building relationships with customers and making sure they are cared for is part of another element of their success. Every car, truck or SUV sold comes with a personal dealer commitment. They will pick up your vehicle and provide a loaner in the event of a breakdown, regardless of the time of day or location. Mr. Langley once traveled as far as Arizona to pick up a vehicle for a valued customer.

Some things should never change

So, in the long run, it has been those two guiding principles — find and keep great employees and always put the customer first that have made it possible for Smackover Motors to win Ford Motor Company’s highest award, not just once, but 17 times. James and Jimmy Langley say that is something that will never change at the dealership. So, while they may win more awards in the future - their customers are the most important people in the world.
