Arkansas names starting quarterback for season opener.

FAYETTEVILLE - Aside from announcing third-year sophomore Cole Kelley as the starting quarterback, Arkansas coach Chad Morris Monday issued a depth chart for the Razorbacks going into their season-opening game.

The Razorbacks and the Eastern Illinois Panthers kickoff their season at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Razorback Stadium televised by the SEC Network.

Once presumed likely to miss Saturday's game because of an appendectomy, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Dalton Wagner did practice last weekend and is listed at backup right tackle.

The starting offensive line in front of Kelley has senior Hjalte Froholdt at center, senior Johnny Gibson and senior Brian Wallace at right tackle and debut starting redshirt freshmen Kirby Adcock and Shane Clenin at left guard and left tackle.

Junior Austin Cantrell starts at tight end with seniors Jared Cornelius and Jonathan Nance and junior La'Michael Pettway as the receivers with junior Devwah Whaley at running back.

Fourth-year junior Ty Storey, edged the last two weeks by Kelley for the quarterbacking job they have contested for since Austin Allen graduated last December, quarterbacks the second unit.

Since players can play up to four games and still be redshirted, Morris said he anticipates giving true freshmen Connor Noland and John Stephen Jones some early-season playing time.

Some surprises on the second offense.

Chase Harrell, the Kansas graduate transfer, and junior Deon Stewart, have not been among the receivers much touted this preseason, but are listed on the second unit with sophomore speedster De'Vion Warren.

Morris said Harrell, the biggest receiver at 6-4, 215, has fared well returning from a hamstring injury during the closed scrimmages and that Stewart has "made some plays" but that "several others" will play.

Morris and Craddock variously have bragged on receivers Jordan Jones of Smackover, Fordyce's Gary Cross, Tobias Enlow of North Little Rock and Tyson Morris of Fayetteville throughout the preseason.

Running back Chase Hayden joins Storey in the second-team backfield with senior Jeremy Patton at tight end.

The backup line includes Wagner and true freshman Noah Gatlin at right and left tackles, sophomore Ty Clary and junior ex-defensive tackle Austin Capps at the right and left guards and Dylan Hays at center.

For the rotating defensive ends, defensive coordinator John Chavis lists Michael Taylor and Randy Ramsey first team and Gabe Richardson and Dorian Gerald second team and Jamario Bell also playing while McTelvin "Sosa" Agim and Armon Watts alternate at one tackle with TJ Smith and Jonathan Marshall 1-2 at the other tackle.

Sophomore Hayden Henry is considered first-team and Deon Edwards the backup if Chavis starts a Sam outside linebacker with D'Vone McClure the starter and Nate Dalton the backup if the Hogs start a nickel back.

Since last spring, the Hogs have had senior Santos Ramirez and sophomore Kamren Curl at the safeties and junior Ryan Pulley and sophomore Chevin Calloway at the corners.

For special teams, Connor Limpert and Blake Johnson return as placekicker and punter.

Redshirt freshman Jordan Silver and sophomore squadman Jack Lindsey debut as snapper and holder.

Cornelius, the punt returner until last year's season-ending Achilles tendon injury, is back, while Warren, who had a 100-yard kick return last year, and Cross are set to return kickoffs.
