- By the News-Times staff

The next Boomtown Opry show, set for Sept. 8, will feature performances by Lynn Landry, April Sanders, Jess Wade, Gina and Todd Mitchell and comedian Sister Lucille.

Known as a Branson, Missouri-style variety show featuring live music, comedy, dancing and other family-friendly entertainment, the Boomtown Opry began presenting monthly shows in the area in May.

The Boomtown Opry features a house band led by BJ Kyle, who has toured professionally with Colt Ford, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence, Kellie Pickler and others. Local actor/ singer Steve Harrell is the emcee and local country duo Southern Koast (Keith Owens and Susan Tolin) provide background vocals.

Landry, who bought his first guitar when he was a teenager, had organized his own band by age 20 and has since opened shows for such country music stars as Lefty Frizzell, Tex Ritter, Conway Twitty and others. To date, Landry has released six albums containing country music, swamp pop, gospel and his own original songs.

Sanders is a vocalist and actress from the Longview, Texas, area who can be seen regularly in the Gladewater Opry in Gladewater, Texas.

Wade performs original music with elements of indie folk, classic country and southern rock.

The Mitchells are part of the production team at the Gladewater Opry with Gina Mitchell serving as emcee and background vocals and Todd Mitchell manning the sound board and appearing as an occasional guest artist on the show. Their show is truly a family affair as Gina Mitchell’s mom, Nancy Ivy, owns the show and the theater that houses it.

Sister Lucille is a character who provides good, clean comedy for virtually any audience. She is known for her quick wit

and “in your face” side-cracking laughter.

Any aspiring singers may audition for future shows before rehearsals on show day around 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door of the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium, with children ages 12 and under admitted free. The Boomtown Opry is a family-friendly event with no alcohol sold during the show.

The Boomtown Opry is partnering with the El Dorado Boys & Girls Club, with a portion of show proceeds benefiting the club. In return, the club provides volunteers to staff each show.
