POWER RANKINGS

Breaking down the SEC

-

1. Alabama: Could Alabama score 50 points with Winnie the Pooh at quarterback? No. Probably no more than 42.

2. Georgia: Bulldogs showed that extra gear in Columbia and it was pretty fearsome.

3. Auburn: No way to judge the Alabama State game. LSU game could finish 3-2, but in a good way.

4. Mississippi State: Bulldogs overwhelming opponents with their D-line so far. Didn’t trample Bill Snyder, at least.

5. LSU: Tigers return to Auburn, site of the game that cost Les Miles his job two years ago. May be even crazier.

6. Texas A&M: Great effort by the Aggies vs. Clemson, but don’t onside kick the ball to Hunter Renfrow.

7. Missouri: Drew Lock may quietly be the SEC’s best player. Needs to show it against Purdue.

8. Ole Miss: The Rebels can score in bunches. But can they score in boxcars? It may take two or three of those on Saturday.

9. Kentucky: “I laughed. I cried. It became a part of me.” — Mark Stoops (discussing the Florida game, not “Beaches.”)

10. Florida: “Dan Mullen has just made University of Florida history!! And — wait, that’s not good at all.”

11. Vanderbilt: Always best to err on the side of caution with the Commodores, but they may be underrated here.

12. South Carolina: Docked a couple of spots for creating false hope, although it was more good Dawgs than bad Gamecocks.

13. Tennessee: UT isn’t back to full Big Orange but UTEP should only require a small amount of peel.

14. Arkansas: Blew a three-touchdown lead in the last 20 minutes on Saturday. The perils of playing fastball.
