Local accountants give back
The Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) is holding their first ever Day of Service today, with local firm Evers, Cox and Gober participating. The firm has donated professional attire to Southern Arkansas University’s Career Closet.
“We’re always looking for new opportunities to give back or contribute to the community through service and things like that,” said ECG Partner Amy Stewart.
Stewart said they decided on SAU’s Career Closet because it seemed like a good way to help young people entering the workforce. She said in the past, the firm has participated in other charitable work in the community, including Operation Christmas Child and sponsoring a room in the Agape House.
“This just presented itself and it was something we totally could get behind as a firm,” Stewart said.
SAU’s Career Closet provides professional attire for SAU students. Students may choose two outfits from the closet each year, free of charge. Traci Hughes, an instructor at SAU’s Rankin College of Business, said over 50 students have benefitted from the Closet since it opened in 2014.
“Professional business attire is one of the first monetary investments a student makes in their future. The Closet helps them get a head start by providing items free of charge to all current SAU students,” Hughes said.
According to a press release from the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, 120 of their members are participating in this inaugural Day of Service.
“CPAs’ commitment to public service is a cornerstone of the profession,” Arkansas Society of CPAs Executive Director and CEO Marsha Moffitt said in the press release. “They not only can help with finances but can offer service and support in many other ways by setting aside time for community involvement.”
