Big plays hurt against Greenwood
After reviewing the film of Friday night’s 44-27 loss to Greenwood, El Dorado defensive coordinator Justin Wylie was understandably frustrated. The Wildcats had chances to get the Bulldogs off the field throughout the game.
“It was a combination of things. I don’t think any particular position played extremely well, whether it was D-line, linebackers, safeties or corners,” Wylie said. “There were a lot of mistakes in that game. Obviously, we didn’t play as well as we wanted to. There were times we should’ve got them off the field. The first drive of the game, we had three guys miss the running back in the backfield to force a field goal opportunity or make them go
on fourth down on the 3-yard line. Thirdand-9, we didn’t get ‘em off the field. Third-and-12, we didn’t get em off the field. They scored two rushing touchdowns on fourth down.
“When you have the opportunity on fourth down and third down, we have to get them off the field. The two touchdowns on fourth down, if we stop ‘em, that’s 14 points erased off the board. If you hold them to a field on the first drive, that’s another four points you save.”
Greenwood amassed 435 yards of offense. That included chunks of 67, 58 and 40. Peyton Holt, a senior QB, rushed for 111 and through for 272.
“You have to account for him. When they won the state championship, he was their main target when he was at receiver. He’s a playmaker. He’s smart. He gets rid of the ball,” said Wylie. “On third down or any down, if you’ve got everybody covered, he can break it. Second play of the game, they motioned a guy out, remove a linebacker. We have a safety that will fit and replace the linebacker. We missed a tackle, should’ve been about an eight-yard gain. He goes for 57.”
Quentin Frazier led the Wildcats with 10 tackles, including six unassisted. Calab Scott had nine tackles. Zac Donahue had nine stops with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Jacoby Hankton had six tackles, two for losses with a sack and a forced fumble. Gavin Heustis had six tackles. Skylar Higgins had six tackles and an interception.
