Cornerback to leave Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE At least temporarily, Arkansas sophomore cornerback Chevin Calloway is withdrawing from participating with the Razorbacks football team.
Calloway, a graduate of Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, has not participated in the Razorbacks' practices or games since the first practice following Arkansas' second game of the season, a 34-27 loss at Colorado State.
Arkansas Coach Chad
Morris has said Calloway, lettering as a backup cornerback last season and starting this season's first two games has "some personal family issues that he’s dealing with and we’re helping him through."
Morris was asked Monday about Calloway and said he remains on the team but on Tuesday Calloway posted on Instagram: that he is "taking a step back from ball."
"“The situations I’m dealing with is a lot bigger than football,” Calloway posted. “Through prayer and a lot of thinking, taking a step back from ball is what’s best for me. My choice was either dealing
with this unhealthy situation [and] making a sacrifice living up to other people’s expectations or listening to my heart, gut, spirit of discernment and what I know is best for me despite others opinions.”
Britto Tutt, since injured and sidelined, started for Calloway in Arkansas' 44-17 nonconference loss to North Texas.
Sophomore Jarques McClellion started at Calloway's corner opposite starting cornerback Ryan Pulley Arkansas' 34-3 and 24-17 SEC losses at Auburn and to Texas A&M at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. ESPN televised SEC game against No. 1 reigning national champion Alabama at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
