Hit-and-run driver arrested

- By Tia Lyons Staff Writer

An El Dorado man appeared Wednesday in 35th Judicial District Court to face several charges, including a felony offense, for leaving the scene of an automobile accident that resulted in an injury.

Randy A. Glover, 53 of 1327 E. Cook, was arrested Tuesday for leaving the scene of an accident with injury, failure to yield and driving on a suspended license.

Glover was also placed on a hold for probation violation.

Another El Dorado man, Kelly B. Peralta, 45, was cited in connection to the accident after admitting that he allowed Glover to drive his vehicle, according to an El Dorado police report.

Officers responded at 5:46 p.m. to a report of a hit-and-run accident in the area of Hillsboro and Rock Island Right of Way.

Police received reports that the accident involved a 1984 Chevrolet pickup and a 2017 Chevrolet Impala and that the driver

of the pickup, later determined to be Glover, had left the scene.

Sheria S. Miller, 38, was driving west on Hillsboro and struck the pickup, which reportedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic while crossing Hillsboro and heading north on Rock Island Right of Way.

Miller said the pickup “just pulled out in front of her.”

She complained of neck and back pain and was treated on the scene by emergency medical technicians.

Miller declined to be transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas for further treatment, saying that she preferred to be transported to MCSA by private vehicle.

Miller later arrived at MCSA with family members. A police report did not indicate that her injuries were life-threatening.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

A short time later, Peralta, the owner of the pickup, arrived on the scene and

told police that he was working nearby when he allowed a male to use his pickup truck.

Police said Peralta initially provided a false name of the male and could not provide proof of automobile insurance.

He was instructed to meet officers at El Dorado Police Department headquarters with the driver of the truck and proof of insurance.

Police said Peralta arrived at the EPD at 8:20 p.m. and he presented an insurance card for another vehicle. Glover was with Peralta and both men admitted that Glover was the driver of the pickup at the time of the accident, police said.

Glover was then taken into custody and Peralta was cited for no proof of insurance and allowing an unauthorized person to drive his vehicle.

Police noted Glover’s driver’s license had been suspended.

Glover said he struck his head during the accident and requested medical treatment. He was transported to MCSA, where he was evaluated and released.

He told officers “he looked both ways and thought he was clear” to proceed through the intersection of Hillsboro and Rock Island ROW and “next thing he knew, the truck was spinning.”

Glover also said “he did not know why he wandered away from the accident” and “he must have hit his head really hard.”

MSCA staff said Glover did not appear to sustain life-threatening injuries or injuries that would cause him to leave the scene of an accident.

Police said the pickup truck was damaged on the rear passenger side and front of the Impala was damaged.

Bond was set Wednesday at a total of $4,280 during Glover’s first appearance hearing in district court.

He received a $2,500 bond on the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injury and an additional bond amount of $780 on the parole detainer.
