- News-Times Staff

PRESCOTT - Greg Turner’s second touchdown of the game with 3:28 left in regulation proved to be the difference, as Smackover rallied to top Prescott 21-20 in a 5-3A showdown Friday night.

With the win, the Bucks (5-1, 3-0) took a major step forward in the race for the league title, which also comes with homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

“Our coaches did a great job,” said Smackover coach Brian Brown. “We made some adjustments. The kids believed in themselves and went out and played.

I’m proud of them.” Smackover trailed 20-7 at intermission, but cut into the

Curley Wolves’ lead on a 37-yard strike from Roshard Boone to Jaqueze Modica with 10:21 in the third quarter.

After the Bucks stopped a Prescott (5-1, 2-1) drive deep in Smackover territory, the visitors marched down the field with Turner scoring on a 25-yard run to tie the game.

Harley Williams, who was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points in the Bucks’ win over Horatio last week, drilled his third successful extra point of the game to give the Bucks the lead.

The Bucks’ defense then came up with a final stop to end another Prescott drive in Smackover territory to seal the victory. Late in the third, the Curley Wolves drove to the Smackover 7 but the Bucks' Ja'Von Modica recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchback.

In the first half, Turner scored on a 22-yard run with Williams’ extra point accounting for the Bucks’ scoring in the first half.

Prescott finished with 337 total yards while the Bucks totaled 207.
