Wilson Borosvskis is leading a community choir as they prepare for a once in a lifetime performance alongside gospel singer Guy Penrod.

The approximately 50-member group formed about two months ago. Borosvskis said when he formed the ensemble, he had no idea they would soon get to take the stage with a major gospel music star.

“I did not have any plan [to sing with Penrod],” Borosvskis said.

Penrod will be performing at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium on Nov. 1 as part of his Pray About Everything tour. The choir will perform four songs with him: “Trading My Sorrows,” “You Reign,” “Never Let Go” and “Revelation Song.”

“The last part of the program, the choir will go up and sing with Guy Penrod,” Borosvskis said.

Borosvskis previously served as the minister of music at First Baptist Church. During that time, Keith Owens, show producer for the Boomtown Opry and other concerts, was part of the choir Borosvskis directed.

“I chose [Borosvskis] to build this choir based on past experiences with him bringing people from all denominations together to praise and worship God,” Owens said in an email.

On Monday, the group had their third rehearsal. Their final rehearsal before the performance will be next Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist fellowship hall.

Before rehearsal, the chorus, which is made up of people from all over the community and from different churches in town, could be seen socializing with a lot of laughter carrying throughout the hall.

“The sound of the chorus and their spirit is a great thing. We’re having a lot of fun,” Borosvskis said.

Borosvskis said the choir will carry on after Penrod’s concert. Gospel singer David Phelps will perform in El Dorado in May as part of the Boomtown Opry, and Borosvskis said the choir may get the chance to perform with him as well.

“All that we do, we do for the Lord,” Borosvskis said as he led the choir in prayer before rehearsal Monday.
