Lady Warriors take 2nd

-

MAGNOLIA - West Side Christian advanced to the championship game of the AACS State Volleyball Tournament on Friday. But, the Lady Warriors couldn’t overcome a strong contingent from Southwest Christian Academy, which claimed the title with a 3-1 victory.

West Side, which beat Garrett Memorial 3-0 in the semifinals, ran out of steam in the finals, falling 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.

"We played tough in the title game but just couldn't match the attack that SCA brought,” said West Side coach Adam Willett. “We came out of the gate swinging and started really well. But, when the momentum shifted, we just couldn't get it back. SCA has the deepest team in the league and that certainly showed today. I am proud of how we fought and I'm proud of what we accomplished this year.”

Anna Williams, a senior, had 11 kills and four assists in the finals. Senior Lauren Land had seven kills and six blocks. Brooklin Pitard, a junior, registered 11 assists and eight kills.

The trio earned all-conference honors and were also named to the all-tournament team along with Tori Bates.

Williams was named co-Conference Player of the year, believed to be a first for West Side Christian’s program.

The Lady Warriors began the day with a win over Garrett Memorial, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19.

Williams had 15 kills. Pitard had 10 assists, seven aces and three kills and Land contributed five assists and four kills.

“We won our first AACS South District Title and finished higher than we've ever finished at runner up in the AACS Championship,” said Willett “So, our girls can be proud of what they were able to do this year."
