Lady Wildcats shock Rayville on Hawthorne's jumper at the buzzer

SHREVEPORT - El Dorado’s Lady Wildcats beat Rayville 49-47 Saturday in the Battle on the Hardwood in Shreveport.

Senior Diamond Hawthorne drained a 15 footer at the buzzer for El Dorado, which, with the game against Delhi, will have played five games in five days.

“This was a gutty win. You could tell they were tired. We had to fight through fatigue to win,” said El Dorado coach Destinee Rogers. “I’m proud of the toughness they showed. They did the little things down the stretch. We missed a block out that allowed them to tie it up but then we came down and executed our offense. We an our high-low play. It just happened to be opposite of her. She moved into the high post, took the shot with confidence and it was nothing but net.” Jessica Morton led the Lady Wildcats with 16 points and eight rebounds. Breya Clark added 10 points, three steals and three assists. Hawthorne finished with nine points and 11 boards.

Later on Saturday, El Dorado (5-1) toppled Delhi 49-24.

Morton scored 18 with Hawthorne adding 12. Clark and Amyiah Williams each scored seven.

El Dorado knocked off Magnolia 42-31 Friday night at Wildcat Arena. The Lady Cats trailed 17-12 at the half and tied the game 27-27 going into the fourth.

El Dorado overcame a seven-point deficit late in the third.

“I’m proud of the team for figuring out a way to win,” said Rogers. “They never gave up and found a way to win. I’m proud of them for that.”

Tasia Richardson paced El Dorado with 13 points and five assists. Morton contribute­d 10 points and six rebounds. Grace Murry scored eight with three assists. Hawthorne added five points and 11 boards.
