Jackson leads UAPB to 75-66 win over Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Charles Jackson drilled six from distance to total 21 points and help Arkansas-Pine Bluff knock off Little Rock 75-66 in the Las Vegas Holiday Invitation­al campus game on Saturday.

Martaveiou­s McKnight scored 20 points while dishing out eight assists and Shaun Doss added 18 points as Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-4) garnered its second straight win after starting the season 0-4.

The Golden Lions took control early, leading 38-31 at the break. Little Rock remained close until Charles Jackson drilled a 3 and McKnight made three straight free throws for a 63-51 advantage at the 9:05 mark. Christian Robertson followed with two straight layups to push the lead to 67-51.

Nikola Maric had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Little Rock (3-3). Kris Bankston added 12 points with nine boards and Markquis Nowell contribute­d 13 points.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff hit 10 of 28 from beyond the arc while the Trojans were just 4 of 19.

SAINT LOUIS 73, UCA 61

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Javon Bess had 19 points and Jordan Goodwin added 18 to lead Saint Louis to a 73-61 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.

Goodwin grabbed six rebounds while dishing out six assists. Tramaine Isabell Jr added 13 points and Carte'Are Gordon chipped in 10 with nine rebounds and three blocked shots for Saint Louis (5-1) which fell to Pitt 75-73 in The Barclays Center Classic on Wednesday for its only loss. The Billikens will face Butler next Saturday.

The Billikens sprinted to an early lead, going up by 13, before Central Arkansas rallied to close to 34-30 at the break. The Bears stayed within single digits of catching Saint Louis until Gordon slammed home a dunk for a 63-53 advantage with 3:25 remaining. Bess made four straight free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.

Deandre Jones had 22 points to lead Central Arkansas (2-4), which now has lost three straight games.

No. 13 KANSAS ST 77, LEHIGH 58

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Dean Wade scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, Barry Brown added 16 and No. 12 Kansas State beat Lehigh 77-58 on Saturday.

The Wildcats (6-0) controlled the second half after the Mountain Hawks hung around and trailed by two at halftime.

James Karnik had 15 points and eight rebounds for Lehigh (4-2), and Pat Andree scored 12. Lehigh compiled 16 turnovers and made just nine field goals in the second half, shooting 28 percent. Lehigh shot 54 percent in the first half.

Brown converted a three-point play to give K-State a 50-40 lead with 14 minutes remaining. That was part of a 12-5 run by the Wildcats that gave them a 57-45 lead.

NO. 13 VIRGINIA TECH 75, ST. FRANCIS (PA) 37

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ahmed Hill scored eight of his 19 points during a 24-6 run spanning halftime, and Virginia Tech beat St. Francis, Pennsylvan­ia.

The Hokies (5-0) led 23-20 when a 3-pointer by Ty Outlaw sparked a 10-2 run to end the first half. Nickeil Alexander-Walker made another 3-pointer right after halftime, one of 14 for Virginia Tech, and two 3s and a basket from Hill and a three-point play by Justin Robinson pushed the lead to 47-26.

Myles Thompson led the Red Flash (1-4) with 14 points. St. Francis shot just 25.9 percent (15 for 58) and committed 22 turnovers.

NO. 22 BUFFALO 76, MARIST 49

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) — CJ Massinburg scored 21 points, Jayvon Graves added 16 and Buffalo overcame a slow start to beat Marist.

Massinburg returned after missing one game with a sprained knee and shot 7 of 10 from the field with six 3-pointers in 25 minutes off the bench.
