Brooklyn Alexander will be the guest speaker when El Dorado Kiwanis Club meets at noon on Wednesday at First Presbyteri­an Church.

Alexander is a 2014 graduate of Norphlet High School and currently attends the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia, where she double majors in film & television and performing arts. She writes and directs films for film festival competitio­n and has won several awards including “Best of Fest” - Audience Favorite Award at the 2018 El Dorado Film Festival and “Best Screenplay” - Women in Film at the 2018 Austin Indie Fest for her most recent film, “Bingo Night,” shot in El Dorado.

After she graduates, Alexander plans to bring more family-friendly films to the big screen.

Rita Haldeman and Madeleine Leroux will be the guest speakers when the Civitan Club meets at noon Thursday at Antigua’s restaurant.

Haldeman is the general manager of the El Dorado News-Times and joined the local newspaper in early October. She previously was a publisher in Kentucky where she oversaw two Kentucky dailies and one Tennessee weekly, and has a wealth of experience in advertisin­g and publishing.

Leroux has been the managing editor since summer 2017, having previously served as associate city editor in Columbia, Missouri, and city beat reporter in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Haldeman and Leroux will speak about the changing newspaper industry.
