West Side Christian sweeps Garrett Memorial
West Side Christian didn’t trail in either of the varsity games Friday in a sweep of Garrett Memorial Christian at the Warrior Center. Stephfan Tabe scored 22 points to lead the Warriors to a 72-27 victory. Lauren Land had 21 points and 11 rebounds in the Lady Warriors’ 48-27 decision.
Both teams improved to 5-2 on the season.
Land, a 6-1 senior, scored seven points in the first six minutes as West Side opened up a 10-0 lead. The margin swelled to 19-5 on Carley Dugal’s second 3-pointer with 1:54 left in the half. The Lady Warriors led 21-7 at the intermission and 33-14 going into the fourth.
“Our veteran players are doing a lot of the little things that are gonna help us weather the storm while Sofia and Hannah heal up,” said West Side coach Randall Miller. “Our younger girls are having to grow up fast and these games are crucial for them.”
Dugal finished with 10 points for the Lady Warriors.
Sophy Tyson, an eighth grader, led the Saints with 11.
The varsity boys game wasn’t as close.
West Side jumped out to a 25-2 lead after a 19-0 run. The Warriors led 43-14 at the half.
Zackley Pearson scored 15 points and John Wylie added 13. Anderson Colley and Landon Moore contributed eight points apiece.
“When we move the ball and shoot in rhythm and the ball doesn’t stick, we are hard to guard,” said Miller. “Our freshmen are playing big roles for us, too. And, we really seem to be meshing well. We preach getting a little better and it looks like we are.”
