Letter to the Editor
To the Editor,
I wish to respond to Royce Purifoy’s letter that appeared in the 2-9-19 edition of the News-Times. He could not have been any more wrong. How dare he trash the Obama legacy. Obama did wonders for the country and had no scandal. From the economic stimulus and Obama Care in his first years of office to the Iran Nuclear Arms Treaty during his last years in office. The economy grew by leaps and bounds, during the Obama era. Making a great recovery from the Great Recession that crippled the whole country during George W. Bush’s last years in office. This downturn was due to the corruption and abuses in the securities industries. Fortunately, the Obama administration brought in legislation to curb waste and fraud in U.S. securities, as well as prosecuting crimes from that industry. Now, we have an emotionally immature president, who brought on the worst government shutdown, making many poor people unable to pay their groceries, insurance, utilities and some have even had to call off much needed surgeries for themselves and their families. How wrong and unfair! Another such shutdown is still a possibility. I pray not!
For 2020, the GOP needs to conduct a dump Trump, draft Jeff Flake campaign. After reading his recent book, I know he has some good sound views, and would make a good president. Restore maturity and sensibility in the White House and elect a mainstream president, who was the best interests of the country at heart. Also, Dreamers should be allowed in the U.S. for work and an education. Be true to the writing on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor … send theses, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.” Oust that overgrown spoiled brat and redneck. One last thing: I am a teacher, and in light of school shootings, we need more gun control legislation. Trump and the infantile NRA can suck an egg.
