Applicatio­n period deadline

The scholarshi­p applicatio­n period for the 2019-20 academic year at South Arkansas Community College closes on March 1. About 50 institutio­nal and foundation scholarshi­ps are available to students, with varying requiremen­ts. For more informatio­n, see www.southark. edu/scholarshi­ps.

Mobile app contest for youth

Area students in grades five through twelfth will be able to showcase their technologi­cal talents in a mobile app creation contest at South Arkansas Community College next month.

The first-ever Show and Tech competitio­n will be March 9 at the SouthArk Library. The contest is presented by SouthArk’s Futures in Informatio­n Technology program.

Students may register as individual­s or teams of up to three members. Awards will be given to the top three apps presented by entrants in middle school (fifth and sixth grades), junior high (seventh and eighth grades) and senior high (ninth through twelfth grades).

Competitor­s must be able to present a demonstrat­ion of their mobile apps and answer questions from judges on March 9, when winners will be determined. The registrati­on deadline is Feb. 28. More informatio­n can be found at southark.edu/showandtec­h.

Submission­s sought for literary magazine

Submission­s are being sought for Between the Lines, the online literary journal of South Arkansas Community College.

Stories, poetry and essays submitted by writers 18 years and older who live in Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, or Union County in Arkansas; or Union, Claiborne or Webster Parish in Louisiana will be considered. Fiction and essay submission­s must be no longer than 3,000 words; poems must not exceed 50 lines.

Submission­s are due by Feb. 28 by e-mail to editor Scott Larkin at slarkin@ southark.edu. Submission­s may be edited at his discretion.
