Lady Trojans reach semifinals at tourney

MAGNOLIA – Parkers Chapel scored twice in the fifth and held off Genoa 7-5 in five innings Friday morning to advance in the Magnolia Softball Tournament.

The Lady Trojans improved to 6-4 on the season and was scheduled to play Magnolia at 5:30 p.m.

Drue Thomas struck out eight batters to earn the victory. The sophomore allowed five runs on five hits with two walks while hitting one batter.

The Lady Trojans had eight hits in the game. T.K. Burson, Kamryn Cross and Kaylin Waller had two hits apiece with Ali Looney and Kylie Jones accounting for the other two.

Waller had four stolen bases with Cross and Jones stealing two and one, respective­ly.

Parkers Chapel trailed 2-1 before Cross drove in three runs in the second with a drive off the centerfiel­d fence.

The Lady Dragons answered with two in the second and one in the third and took a 5-4 lead.

Halley Evers tied the game with a RBI ground out to short.

Waller led off the top of the fifth with an infield single, stole second and went to third on a passed ball.

Cameron lined a shot up the middle that deflected off the pitcher.

Waller couldn’t score on Cameron’s hit but crossed the plate on a passed ball.

With two outs, Taylor Fortune walked.

Sabrina Butler came in to run for Fortune and scored on Burson’s single.
