JESSE L. WOOD
Jesse Leon Wood, 82, of El Dorado, AR. passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
He was born on July 29,
1936 in El Dorado, AR., to
Julius Cleveland Wood and
Pearl Nash Wood. Before retirement, Leon worked for
Sears for 32 years. Leon dedicated his life to his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Ann
(Compton) Wood, children and grandchildren. Leon was a former Deacon of Mt. Union
Baptist Church of El Dorado, served in the National Guard and was an avid farmer and cattleman.
Preceding him in death were his parents, J.C and Pearl Nash Wood, his beloved son, Richard Alan Wood, his brothers, Wallace, Norman and Chester Wood, and one sister, Inez Wood Skaggs.
Survivors include his wife Betty Ann (Compton) Wood, son Steve (Beth) Wood, daughter in law Stacey Wood, one brother, Gordon (Ruby) Wood, grandchildren, Katelyn Wood, Austin (Olivia) Wood, Brook (CG) Kirby, Bailey Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leon was excited about the upcoming arrival of his first great grand- daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wood.
Funeral will be held at 10 am, Monday, July 15, 2019 at Mt. Union Baptist Church of El Dorado with Bro. John Ayres officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8pm, Sunday evening at Mt. Union Baptist Church.
