Man receives $25,000 bond after allegedly attacking his mother
Nearly $130,000 reported stolen from local business
Bond was set at $25,000 Monday for an El Dorado man who appeared in Union County District Court for allegedly attacking his mother during an argument about household chores.
A first appearance hearing was held for Joseph M. Sommerville, 31, of the 1100 block of Pine, on a felony charge of second-degree domestic battery.
El Dorado police responded July
21 to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Pine Street residence and upon arrival, they made contact with Sommerville’s mother, who was in the front yard.
She told police the pair had argued about Sommerville “not cleaning the kitchen” and Sommerville grabbed a shoe and struck her in the left eye and back with the shoe.
The 62-year-old woman said Sommerville then struck her in the left arm several times with his fist before “removing her from her residence” and locking the doors.
Sommerville’s mother said she then called 911.
Police said the complainant granted them permission to enter the residence by using her keys.
Upon entering the back door of the residence, officers said they announced their presence and Sommerville complied
with commands to come into the living room with his hands in the air and to lay on the floor.
He was taken into custody without further incident, according to a police report.
Police said the complainant’s left eye was swollen and red and she had multiple bruises on her left arm.
Theft
El Dorado police are investigating a theft of nearly $130,000 that was reported missing this week at a local business.
On July 22, the district manager of Bumper to Bumper/Crow Burlingame Auto Parks, 425 Northwest Ave., told police that an employee, who remained anonymous, made statements indicating that another employee was stealing from the El Dorado business.
The district manager launched an investigation and found that an invoice number did not match a “cash out receipt” for an automotive battery, according to a police report.
The complainant told police that an employee admitted falsifying the invoice at the request of another store worker.
Consequently, the two employees were suspended and after a further probe into invoices, the district manager discovered that nearly $127,000 had been stolen between 2017 and 2019, according to police report.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
