El Dorado man arrested amid weekend disturbances

- By Tia Lyons Staff Writer

An El Dorado man is scheduled for a first appearance hearing today in 35th Judicial District Court following an arrest in connection with one of several disturbances that were reported in the city over the weekend.

Jeremy L. Walker, 29, of the 2900 block of East Main, was arrested Saturday on felony charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, possession of a firearm by certain persons and tampering with physical evidence.

Walker was involved in one of three disturbances that were reported Saturday and early Sunday and in one of two in which shots were allegedly fired, police said.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

At 3:08 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to Walker’s residence in reference to a domestic disturbance that possibly involved a gun.

Upon arrival, police talked with Walker’s wife, who told them that Walker was in the backyard with a gun.

She said Walker became upset during a “discussion regarding her infidelity,” and at one point lifted her off the floor by her shoulders.

Walker retrieved a handgun and fired it inside the residence, the complainant said, noting that Walker did not point the gun at her.

She told police that she was lying on the couch when she heard what sounded like two gunshots in the bedroom where Walker had been sleeping.

A short time later, Walker entered the living room, “stood over the top of her” and fired what she believed to be three more shots, the complainant said.

She said Walker then walked out the back door and began firing the gun in the backyard.

Police said there were several fresh bullet holes, entry and exit, in the interior and exterior walls of the house.

Officers noted that four of the bullet holes were in a wall on the east end of the residence and it appeared the bullets had been fired toward the area where the complainant had been lying on the couch.

There was another bullet hole in the window just above the couch, police said.

Officers recovered two spent shell casings on the floor near the couch, according to a police report.

Walker was taken into custody and police said that when they inquired about the handgun, Walker said, “I threw it in that direction.”

Police said they later recovered a handgun on the floor of the closet in Walker’s bedroom.

Officers also responded just before 11 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired in the area of Texas and Lincoln.

Officers received information about a potential suspect and a description of the vehicle the suspect was possibly driving.

While patrolling the area, police said they spotted a vehicle that matched the description provided by 911 dispatchers at the intersection of Wilson and Nelson.

Officers made contact with the driver, who said he was the victim in the incident and the suspect was his stepson.

The man said he had gone to the suspect’s residence in the 1000 block of Texas and when he knocked on the door, the suspect ordered him to leave.

An argument ensued and the man said that when he got into his vehicle to leave, he saw the suspect standing on the porch, aiming a gun toward him. The victim man said he then left. Witnesses told police they did not hear any gunshots, and police said several people who were outside when the incident allegedly occurred would not corroborate the victim’s account.

At 12:37 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 900 block of East Main.

A woman told police that her boyfriend became upset when he could not find his cigarettes and demanded that she help him search for the them.

She said her boyfriend “became furious” when they were not able to find the cigarettes and began breaking items in the residence, adding that he “punched out a window.”

The suspect then “began charging towards her” and she shoved him away “when he entered her personal space,” the complainant said.

She said that when she told the suspect she was calling police, he tried to grab her cellphone and after a brief tussle, he left the residence.

Police noted that the woman’s shirt was torn and she was sweating profusely.
