Wildcats to get physical next week

- By Tony Burns Sports Editor

El Dorado concluded the first week of football practice with a morning workout on Friday. The Wildcats hit the field at 8 a.m., for a two-hour session.

“It's been a great week. I feel good about where we're at,” said Coach Steven Jones, who said the team will get more physical next week with full pads.

“We're ready to put the pads on and go full and have some scrimmage-type scenarios and see where we're at. I think doing that we'll know a lot more about the spots that are still up for grabs and the people who will win those jobs.”

The Wildcats plan to go full pads on Monday and Wednesday. On Friday, El Dorado will hold its Purple-White scrimmage.

This week, El Dorado had a pair of morning practices mixed with afternoon workouts. The Wildcats' schedule calls for a morning workout on Monday before after-school practices start on Tuesday. The final morning practice will be on Thursday at 6 a.m. El Dorado's Meet the Cats ceremony will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

“We'll be in more of a routine. We're looking forward to that,” said Jones. “Right now, there's a lot of different odds and ends we're having to work around in the summer with different obligations for teachers and summer schedule. We're looking forward to school starting and getting into that routine.”

Today, the Wildcats will have a Father-Son Day for the seniors.

“The seniors and their dads are going to come in. It's something I've done at other places I've worked at, just to kind of have the dads and sons talk to one another about graduating, what are their plans. Just have them sit down and talk to each other, have some questions for the dads to ask their sons and the sons to ask their dads,” said Jones. “It's just to get them to communicate with one another. A lot of times in this day and age, it's something that's overlooked. We want to encourage that constant communication and that positive male role model.”
