Parkers Chapel cruises to win over Woodlawn

PARKERS CHAPEL – Parkers Chapel seized control early against Woodlawn and the Trojans never let up, rolling to a 68-49 league win on Friday. PC improved to 8-6 overall and 6-1 in 2A-8 competitio­n. The Bears dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in conference.

The Trojans used a 15-3 run to open up an 18-8 advantage in the first quarter. Woodlawn closed the gap to 24-18 in the second and 33-26 at the half.

But PC came out in the third with a quick 8-2 burst to turn a 33-28 lead to 41-30 midway in the third. Nik Garcia and Caleb Jacobs drained 3-pointers as the cushion grew to 51-36 with 1:12 left in the third. A pair of 3-pointers, one each by Terrell Malone and Garcia gave PC a 57-37 advantage going into the final period.

“I thought it was the best game and most complete game we have played in weeks,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “Hard to pick one guy that stood out when they all played so well. If we can continue to play at that level, I think we are going to be a really tough out.”

Malone led a balanced offensive attack with 19 points, almost all coming on acrobatic drives to the basket. Evan Younger added 15 points with Preston Stivender and Jacobs chipping in with eight and seven, respective­ly.

Cole Reynolds and Joseph McBroome led the Bears with 14 and 13 points, respective­ly.

BISMARCK 71, SMACKOVER 51

BISMARCK - Jaqueze Modica scored 21 points for the Bucks (4-13, 0-5), who lost their third straight game in 7-3A play.

Blake Smith had 25 points for the Lions (3-12, 1-4), who picked up their first league victory.

Smackover travels to Centerpoin­t for a conference clash on Tuesday.

DERMOTT 63, STRONG 61

DERMOTT - Strong placed four players in double figures, but fell just short on the road in 8-1A play.

The win was the second in 10 days for the Rams (16-9, 5-1) over the Bulldogs (5-12, 3-5), who came away with a 75-40 win back on Jan. 7 at Strong.

Byron Maze had a double-double for the Bulldogs, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists and two blocks.

Derrion Davis led Strong with 22 points along with five rebounds, while Jeremiah Young added 13 points with five rebounds and Emauri Newton chipped in with 12 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Fred Williams grabbed 10 rebounds along with four points for the Bulldogs, who host Hermitage on Tuesday before playing their next three games on the road.
