Corrections
Several corrections are required in a story that appeared Wednesday in the New-Times regarding the 2020 Black History Person of the Year and Youth of the Year Dinner, which is set for 6 p.m. Saturday in the Parish Hall of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
The Rev. Barry and Vicky Dobson are the recipients of the first-ever Robert and Margie Bailey Humanitarian Award. Barry Dobson is the pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Brian and Vada Smith will be honored as Black History Persons of the Year in the Community Advocates category.
Johntay McAlphin has been named one of the recipients of the 2020 Youth of the Year Award, along with his sister Jmiracle McAlphin, a sixth-grader at Washington Middle School.
Jmiracle and Johntay, a seventh-grade student at Barton Junior High School, went head to head last month in the Union County Spelling Bee, which Johntay won.
He went on to compete against 50 other spellers in the Arkansas State Spelling Bee, which was held in Cabot Feb. 1.
Johntay has also competed in and won science competitions, including a fourth-place finish in the You Be the Chemist, Union County competition, and first-place win in an online competition on Scientist Destination.
His hobbies include collecting keyblades, “building things” and competing in video games.
The siblings are both members of St. James Baptist Church.

Information that appeared in the Jan. 29 edition of the NewsTimes requires some clarification. The Union County Quorum Court suggested the dissolution of the El DoradoUnion County Recreation Complex Board upon an agreement by the city of El Dorado to take over administrative duties of the complex from the county, per a proposal that was presented by the quorum court The dissolution of the board was not included in the terms of the proposal.
