Keep Planting!

- JASON PERDIEU Captain Jason Perdieu is corp officer of the Salvation Army of El Dorado.

I am not a gardener. I have never been able to grow anything. In fact, it’s so bad, I can’t even grow a beard! So with that being said, when it comes to gardens or flower beds I have given up!

I remember one time Elyshia’s mom and dad were moving and asked us if we would keep their HUGE potted plant for about 6 months. The instructions were simple, keep it in the large front window and water it every two days. Long story short, I had no idea that you could drown a plant, but I did. It was right about that time that I learned that her parents were coming to retrieve it. I thought, no big deal it’s a plant. It was also around that time that I learned that this plant had been in their family for generations! So, it was a big deal! Luckily, my father-in-law has a green thumb and brought it back to life!

I have discovered that there is a difference between the planter and the garden however they are interchangeable and quite frankly need each other.

Sometimes the one who planted the seed needs to see the flower that was produced by him/her for validation and affirmation. Often when we do not see the fruits of our labor it’s easy to get discouraged and wonder if our labor was in vain. I admit that I have felt that way at times, not so much with a garden but with people. As Christians the world is our garden and we must not grow weary of sowing seeds for the master. I promise, sometimes the seeds find fertile soil and blossom! Either way, our garden (our people, our world) is dying and it’s up to us to plant and cultivate, but it is God who waters and ultimately germinates the seed.

Ecclesiastes 11:1-6, “

1Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.2Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. 3If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. 4He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. 5As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. 6In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

Continue to sow seeds by sharing the love of Jesus with others. Invite someone to church. Pray for them and encourage them daily. Remember, a garden needs love to grow!

Peace and Blessings,
