Smackover continues solid start with sweep

ARKADELPHI­A Smackover continued an impressive first week of the season on Thursday by sweeping a doublehead­er at Arkadelphi­a by scores of 13-4 and 5-1.

The sweep of the Badgers comes on the heels of a season-opening win over Junction City on Monday.

The Bucks (3-0) batted around as part of a sixrun fourth inning to take command in the opener.

Baylor Brumley, who went the distance with a five-hitter, helped his own cause with a pair of RBI singles in the frame.

Rhett Richardson drove in two of his four runs with a two-run single, and Jackson Cook drove in a run with a base hit.

Smackover also scored three runs in the first and second innings with Jacob Eubanks delivering RBI doubles in each frame.

Richardson and Dawson Biggers had bases-loaded walks in the first, while Josh Saulsbury had an RBI single and Richardson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Eubanks went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs in the opener. He scored four runs and had a stolen base.

Saulsbury was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. He had four stolen bases in the contest.

Brumley went 2-for3 with two RBIs, while Bailey Rivers went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Biggers, Richardson and Cook each had one hit in the win.

On the mound, Brumley allowed five singles while allowing four runs with

three being earned. He walked three, struck out four and hit two batters.

In the nightcap, Richardson and Eubanks collaborat­ed on a two-hitter to finish the sweep.

Richardson worked 5 1/3 innings and allowed both of Arkadelphi­a's hits. He allowed one earned run with five walks and seven strikeouts.

Eubanks got the final two outs to pick up his second save of the season.

Smackover scored twice in the second and fourth innings before tacking on a single run in the sixth.

Rivers, who went 3-for4, highlighte­d the second with an RBI double.

Brumley had an RBI single and Cook drove in a run with a ground out to account for the Bucks' scoring in the fourth.

Eubanks also had an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Biggers and Brumley each had one hit for the Bucks.

Biggers scored a pair of runs with Brumley scoring once in addition to his aforementi­oned RBI single.

Smackover played at Parkers Chapel on Friday, and will hit the road to face Horatio at 10 a.m. today at Arkadelphi­a.
