Strong school board OKs new pavilion, travel club
During its monthly meeting Monday, the Strong-Huttig School Board approved a request from a family to build a pavilion on the Gardner-Strong Elementary School campus in memory of a loved one.
Becky Bolding, school improvement specialist at the school, presented the request for the family who wishes to remain anonymous.
According to notes from the meeting sent to the
News-Times, the district would not have any financial or construction obligation to the pavilion. The district also wouldn’t have to enter any contracts with vendors, and would be allowed to use the pavilion for school functions authorized by the superintendent. However, community functions must be requested and pre-approved by the Strong-Huttig School Board. The board unanimously approved the request.
The board also unanimously approved the formation of a Travel Club for junior and senior high students. This would include summer travel opportunities for students and/or faculty members, although the school would not be responsible for any travel arrangements or finances.
The company selected by the club would conduct all business with students’ parents or guardians, according to the meeting notes.
The board also approved the minutes from the February meeting, monthly bills, a request to use the elementary cafeteria for a family reunion in September, a petition of student transfer to El Dorado and the 2020-2021 calendar.
During the meeting, the board recognized Kyron Franklin, Tamia Reynolds, Jamarion Mitchell and MaMyron Thompson as the students of the month.
