Call for art: SAAC to host quarantine art exhibits

-

It’s time for a little fun and a little art at SAAC, socially distancing, of course!

The South Arkansas Arts Center invites all area artists, students and adults, to participate in two upcoming art shows focusing on art created during quarantine. It is time to get your artwork ready for “Kitchen Table Art: Art Created During School Closures,” with delivery days for student artwork on June 1-2, and “Under Quarantine: Art Under Unprecedented Circumstances,” with delivery days for artwork by adults on June 26 & 29, at SAAC!

“Kitchen Table Art: Art Created During School Closures,” the student exhibit and competition, will hang in the Merkle and Price Galleries for viewing June 4-26, with a pickup date of June 29. Ready to hang or display artwork can be delivered to SAAC from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 1-2. Divisions are Grades K-4, Grades 5-8, and Grades 9-12. These divisions should be entered as grade just completed.

Awards in each division will be presented. Prizes include: First Place $75; Second Place $50; Third Place $25. Honorable mentions may be awarded with no cash prizes. Any medium may be used, any 2D or 3D art will be accepted and only one piece allowed per student. SAAC membership not required to exhibit student work, and no entry fee is required.

To enter, select one piece of artwork created by the student while working at home during the quarantine (March 14-present). It needs to be ready to display in the gallery. That means 2D work should be able to hang on the wall — in a frame, velcro on the back, pins to hang it from. 3D work is not required to hang.

Complete the online entry form. Rather than a paper entry form, visit the SAAC website and type the information in — student’s name, grade just completed, title of the work, medium, and basic contact information for the family.

And then simply drop the artwork off at SAAC on June 1-2. Be sure the student’s name, an email or phone number are also on the back of the piece.

“Under Quarantine: Art Under Unprecedented Circumstances,” the adult exhibit and competition, is open to all adults age 18 and over. These ready to hang or display works should be delivered to SAAC on June 26, from 9 a.m. to noon, and on June 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The exhibit will be available for viewing July 1-July 28, with a pickup date of July 29. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show $200; First Place $150; Second Place $100; Third Place $50. Honorable mentions may be awarded with no cash prize. Any medium may be used, any 2D or 3D art will be accepted and two pieces will be accepted. SAAC membership is not required to participate, and there is no entry fee. For more information or clarification, email kelly@saac-arts.org.
