Whosoever

- JASON PERDIEU Captain Jason Perdieu is corps officer of the Salvation Arm of El Dorado.

I am not a person that gets involved with political rants. I don’t take to social media to bash people, nor do I buy into other people’s ignorant tirades. I am not a card carrying member of either the Republican or Democrat parties. I am plain and simply a Christian who votes and decides by my morals and spiritual beliefs.

As human beings (especially those of us in positions of ministry), we have a moral obligation to speak out against injustice. It is very rare, but this last week I have literally been at a loss for words about the senseless murder.

I couldn’t watch the video nor did I want to. It’s bad enough that the image of that police Officer with his knee on George Floyd’s neck will forever be etched in my mind’s eye.

Instead of things getting better, it seems to be getting worse. Jesus died for the “whosoever.”

That means EVERYBODY.

There is a song in our Salvation Army songbook entitled “They Shall Come From the East.” It was written by a former Salvation Army Officer, General John Gowans. It was inspired by the scripture found in Luke 13. Please see the words below.

They Shall Come From the East

Verse 1

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God;

Both the rich and the poor,

The despised, the distressed,

They’ll sit down in the Kingdom of God.

And none will ask what they have been

Provided that their robes are clean;

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

Verse 2

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God;

To be met by their Father

And welcomed and blessed,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

The black, the white, the dark, the fair,

Your color will not matter there;

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west, And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

Verse 3

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God;

Out of great tribulation to triumph and rest

They’ll sit down in the Kingdom of God.

From every tribe and every race,

All men as brothers shall embrace;

They shall come from the east,

They shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

We don’t have to look the same or have the same last name to be related. In fact because we are all part of the “whosoever” for whom Jesus shed his blood, that makes us “blood related.”

“And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.” — Luke 13:29 (ESV)

Let’s ALL get there, TOGETHER. Keep praying, El Do; we have to all do our part. Please love and take care of each other.
