Station allows resident visits at Silver Oaks

- By Rhett Gentry Staff Writer

Last week, families of residents of Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehab in Camden had their first opportunity to visit with their relatives face-to-face since March 13 with the delivery of a Visitation Station.

The Visitation Station was created and donated to Reliance Health Care from Camden Glass and Overhead Door. It is a portable cubicle which features three sides of plexiglass with an unobstructed back for patients to enter through.

Reliance Health Care is following United States Centers for Disease Control and Arkansas Department of Health guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis by not allowing any visitors into the building, Silver Oaks Administrator Kathy Langley said, adding, “It has been so difficult here because some of our people don’t understand why their families aren’t coming and that their families can’t. The Visitation Station can change that.”

The Visitation Station was booked all day on its arrival with appointments set through the weekend, with families able to visit their relatives in 30-minute flights.

“It is the most wonderful gift! Our people have only been able to see their relatives through a window and haven’t had anything as up close and personal as this. It was extremely emotional and we are hoping it will certainly improve the quality of life.” Langley said. “It’s the best thing to happen here since March 13.”

Reliance Health Care has made it clear that they are working hard to ensure the happiness and safety of their patients, and the Visitation Station will bridge the gap for families to be reunited.

According to the ADH, one resident at Silver Oaks currently has COVID19. Langley said the facility is following all guidance from the ADH and CDC to ensure the resident is cared for and other residents and workers are protected.

“Silver Oaks, as it always has, will not waiver in its commitment to providing superior care for those ill from this or any other diagnosis as we put our patients’ well-being first among our priorities,” she said.
