SAAC virtual Summer Camp continues with dancers Stephanie and Cami Lowrey

-

The South Arkansas Arts Center will continue their free virtual Summer Camp videos June 15 through 20 with ballet instructors Stephanie and Cami Lowrey.

This year’s camps are all being held online, and everyone is welcome to join in on the tuition-free fun and learning via computer, tablet or smartphone.

Ballet Camp Jr. “A Classical Ballet Exploration” will begin June 15, where students will hear the stories of 5 classic ballets: “The Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Swan Lake”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and “Peter and the Wolf”.

During camp, participants will learn how ballets tell stories without any talking! They will get

to practice telling the story themselves with ballet games, costume making and crafts, set design and, of course, lots of dancing.

“I have always loved classical ballet stories and watching professionals perform them,” Cami Lowery said. “However, I enjoy sharing my love for these stories with young dancers in my community even more! I can’t wait to teach them the dances Ms. Stephanie and I have created and watch them perform.”

Students are encouraged to share their dances and crafts from the week to the SAAC Facebook page.

Stephanie and Cami Lowrey are a mother-daughter duo that have been creating and choreographing summer camp ballets since 2012. Ballet camp is one of their favorite activities, and they look forward to it every year.

Cami’s first ballet class was at SAAC, and her love for dance has only skyrocketed since then. Not only does she love taking class and learning new choreography, but she also loves working alongside her mom to create the ballets.

Stephanie really brings a vision and leadership to the team. She is great at planning not only the dances, but the set, lighting and costume designs too. Together they have created and produced 26 ballets with SAAC.

Students can continue to register throughout the summer. By registering, SAAC will be able to keep students informed of new camp announcements and program updates.

Students can enjoy summer camp at any time, choosing to complete the lessons day-by-day or week-by-week or saving them up to complete all at once. Each instructor will include a supply list of materials and all the information needed to complete the projects in their videos.

Visit saac-arts.org to access the summer camp videos or register a student. For more information, call the SAAC office at 870-8625474. SAAC is located at 110 E. 5th St. in El Dorado.
