LETTERS EDITOR TO THE

To the editor:

I received a letter from you guys today, expressing the sad news that the price for subscription for the El Dorado News-Times is going to increase due to a drop in revenue. Have you guys considered all the possibilities to increase revenue. I have been subscribing to the El Dorado News-Times for many many years. At the time I never cared about a newspaper. It started all because of the section, letters to the Editor. I subscribed because I enjoyed reading the comments and thoughts of everyday people. The majority of citizens enjoy the same.

You probably had twice as many subscribers then as you do now. People looked forward to reading Letters to the Editor each day, I know I did and was told that by many others. It’s like the tabloids people love it, it sales. But over the yeas different editors kept making changes and printing few and few letters, as a results the paper loss subscribers. The Happy Birthday column was even removed. When you take away the things people like about your paper, you are going to loose subscribers. Somebody in the office should have figured that out. Try something for sixty days and watch your paper subscription increase, put more Letters to the Editor in, even if you have to go into the archives and get old letters. Put the Happy Birthday column back in. It’s not that hard to save your paper if you really want to.

Hate to give up my subscription

To the editor:

I have been thinking about this for a few years but kept putting it off for some reason. But a few days

ago something happen that made me change my mind. I was awaken by a loud noise on my front porch, when I checked to see what was going on I found two pit-bull dogs in my front yard. They had killed a cat. You may say so what it was just a cat, but it could have been a child or some old person. It could have been anybody just crossing the dogs path that morning. I did not know the owner of the dogs but I am sure that the owner didn’t know the dogs were loose and running around and that’s where there is a problem.

I think that if you own a dog especially a pit-bull, the first thing you should do is make sure your dogs are always secure on your property. The next thing is that there should be an ordinance or law that if a person is going to own a vicious dog as a pit-bull, that person should be required to have a minimum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000,) in liability insurance on that dog. If you are walking your dog keep it on a leash and under control, with tags and shots on collar, if not in compliance a minimum fine of ($200). If your dog is caught running loose in the streets a fine of ($1,000). The dog cannot be punished but the owner can.

You may think the punishment is unfair, but think what could happen to some child play in the yard or on their front porch, that could be attacked and injured, then some family or insurance will have to pay for some dog owner being careless and irresponsible.

I don’t know if there are laws against having dogs run loose and out of control of the owner, but I do know if there is they are not being enforce. I can see a poodle running loose, but a pit-bull no way. We all know what damage they can do to an adult, so we know a baby don’t have a chance. Are we going to say until it happens, before we do something about it? Pit bulls’ kill, don’t say you was not made aware. “”BEWARE OF PIT-BULLS”
