Drillers split doublehead­er against Texarkana

The El Dorado Drillers recorded a split of their doublehead­er against Texarkana Wednesday at Norphlet, winning the opener 4-3 before falling in the nightcap 9-4.

The Drillers (5-5) overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring three runs in the third to take the lead for good.

The Drillers loaded the bases with Jax Todd drawing a walk before A.J. Alsobrook singled and Shadarius Plummer was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Justin Dumas then drew a walk to bring home Todd with the tying run.

One out later, Jacob Orr drove in the go-ahead run with a base hit that scored Alsobrook to give the Drillers a 3-2 lead.

Rhett Richardson then gave the Drillers a little breathing room with a single down the first-base line to score Plummer to make it 4-2.

After that, Richardson and later Chase Brumley closed the door on the visitors.

Richardson worked two scoreless innings in relief of starter Hunter Lawrence to pick up the win.

Richardson allowed one hit, didn’t issue any walks and struck out three.

Brumley allowed an unearned run in the fifth, but worked a scoreless sixth and seventh to pick up the save.

He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five over three innings of work.

Lawrence allowed two runs with only one being earned in two innings. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one.

The Drillers opened the scoring in the first.

Alsobrook led off with a single to right and stole second to get into scoring position.

Plummer then singled and stole second to put runners at second and third, and Dumas drove in Alsobrook with a ground out to third.

Alsobrook was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base for the Drillers, while Orr went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in the win.

Plummer was 1-for-1 with two walks, a stolen base and one run scored, Dumas drove in two runs while going 1-for-1 with a walk and Richardson was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Texarkana scored four runs in the first en route to salvaging a split.

Dumas took the loss, allowing six runs, but only two were earned, over two innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out one.

Trace Davis allowed two runs with only one being earned in two innings in relief. He walked two and struck out four while allowing two hits.

Holden Lowry turned in a solid outing out of the bullpen, racking up six strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

He allowed one hit and didn’t issue any walks.

Sawyer Cropper allowed an earned run in the seventh. He allowed two hits and struck out two with no walks.

The Drillers did not go down quietly, as they scored four runs in the seventh with two outs.

John Robert Burson and Cropper each drew walks and scored on Cameron Mayo’s single to left-center.

Brody McKinney then followed with a triple off the fence in center to score Mayo to make it 9-3.

McKinney later scored on a passed ball to make the final margin.

McKinney went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and one run scored, while Mayo was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and one run scored in the contest.

Mason Dougan and Davis were both 1-for-2 for the Drillers.

The Drillers will be back in action tonight, as they hit the road to take on Crossett. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
