SHIRLEY R. HURLEY

Shirley R. Hurley, 85, of El Dorado passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at her residence.

Born March 2, 1935 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Thomas Julian and Margaret Horne Richards. Happily married to Ed Hurley for over 50 years, Shirley was a homemaker and member and

Elder of First Presbyteri­an

Church.

Shirley attended the

University of Arkansas at

Fayettevil­le where she was a Razorback Beauty and a member of Delta Delta

Delta sorority.

Shirley was happiest outside, whether playing tennis or golf or pulling weeds in her yard and loved contributi­ng to her community through her Master Gardener’s group, especially at Hope Landing. A longtime supporter of UCAPS, she was passionate about animals, from turtles in the yard to hummingbir­ds at her feeders. Many dogs and cats were part of her life and she loved them all.

She worked tirelessly as the Hospitalit­y Chairman at First Presbyteri­an Church, hosting countless receptions and feeding hundreds over the years. As past president of the El Dorado Charity League (El Dorado Service League) and a member of the Silver Kickers, Shirley was all about having fun and doing good.

Her positive energy was an inspiratio­n to her family and friends. Her kindness and infectious smile was happily offered to all she met. Affectiona­tely called Mammy by her four grandkids, her greatest source of pride was her family.

Thanks be to God for Shirley Hurley! Preceding her in death along with her parents were her husband, Louis Edward Hurley, Jr. and a sister, Jean Falkenstei­n.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Harper (Dr. William) of El Dorado and Annette Hurley (Candi Grace) of Little Rock. Surviving grandchild­ren are Caroline Hardin of Conway, AR, William Harper, III, Annaleigh Harper both of Little Rock and Suzannah Harper of Hope.

Private entombment services will be held at First Presbyteri­an Church Columbariu­m.

Memorials may be made to UCAPS, 1000 Sunset Road, El Dorado, AR or to First Presbyteri­an Church, 300 E. Main St. El Dorado, AR 71730.

JAMES PALMER

Mr. James Edward Palmer was born on January 3, 1947, in Camden, Arkansas to James Palmer and Oler Bell Williams.

James attended school in the Mt. Holly School District during his early years then transferre­d to Booker T. Washington High School in El Dorado, Arkansas. After leaving Washington

High, James relocated to

Oakland, California, where he spent most of his adult life and worked for M&A

Towing.

James returned to El

Dorado around 1998 and remained here until his death. He was employed by ConAgra and Walmart.

James was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparen­ts

(Jim and Hattie Williams) who raised him in Schuler, Arkansas; paternal grandparen­ts John and Eula Palmer. He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, James “Poncho” Michael Palmer (Jamie); grandson, James Michael Palmer, Jr., maternal aunt, Mrs. Cornella Brown and a host of cousins and friends.

Graveside Service for James Palmer will be Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at Mt. Sinai Freewill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The service has been entrusted to the profession­al care of Andrews Funeral Home.

NORA LOUANN MCGEHEE

Nora Louann McGehee, 50 of Star City, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born March 8, 1970 in Little Rock. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Star City; was a former clinic nurse in El Dorado; very active member in Star City Women’s League; and very involved with the Star City High School Band and Football programs.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Rozella

Dunn McGehee.

Survivors include her husband, John McGehee of Star City; father, Billy McGehee of Star City; 2 sons, J.C. McGehee of Star City and Phillip Brent McGehee of White Hall; daughter, Madyson Rose McGehee of Star City; brother, Tim (Jennifer) McGehee of El Dorado; and her birth mother, Donna Bolaños of Sherwood; and many many friends.

Graveside services are 11:00AM Friday at Holly Springs Cemetery with Bro. David Leopard officiatin­g. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00PM Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Griffin Funeral Service. Only 50 people allowed in the building at a time and masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Arkansas Community College, 300 S. West Avenue, El Dorado, AR 71730.
