Oilers split twinbill against Sheridan

The El Dorado Oilers split a doublehead­er at Sheridan on Friday, falling in the opener 6-3 before bouncing back to win the nightcap 12-5.

Rhett Richardson drove in three runs, while Sawyer Cropper, Mason Dougan and Hunter Lawrence had two RBIs apiece in the nightcap for the Oilers (15-8), who scored seven runs in the second to take control early on.

Lawrence led off the second with a walk and Sam Rothwell was hit by a pitch.

Chase Brumley entered the game as a courtesy runner and scored moments later along with Lawrence on a two-run double to right-center off of Dougan's bat that opened the scoring.

John Robert Burson was plunked with a pitch, and Cropper, who was 2-for-2, delivered an RBI single to score Dougan to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead.

Demarcus Young then followed with a run-scoring single of his own to bring home Burson to make it 4-0.

After A.J. Alsobrook walked to load the bases, Shadarious Plummer drove in Cropper with a ground out to second base.

Richardson then capped the scoring in the frame by driving in a pair of runs with a base hit to right-center.

The Oilers padded their lead in the third on an RBI double with two outs by Cropper that scored Brumley, who ran for Rothwell after he singled.

Leading 8-1, the Oilers scored three runs in the fourth.

Plummer started the rally with a leadoff walk before stealing both second and third base.

Richardson followed with a walk and stole second to put a pair of runners in scoring position.

Lawrence then drilled a two-run double to push the lead to 10-1.

Lawrence stole second to get into scoring position, and Rothwell drew a walk. One out later, Burson walked to load the bases, and Jordan Brock picked up an RBI by drawing a free pass of his own.

The Oilers scored their final run in the fifth.

Alsobrook drew his third walk of the game and stole both second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Richardson.

Sheridan fought back by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth before the Oilers were able to hang on and salvage a split.

Burson (2-0) worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win. He allowed one hit, struck out one and didn't issue any walks.

Lawrence allowed four hits and one earned run in two innings in relief. He walked two and struck out two.

Dougan allowed all four of Sheridan's runs in the fifth with all of them being earned while working 2/3 of an inning. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out two.

Jacob Orr came on and got the final out of the game.

Dougan opened the scoring in the second with his two-run double and Rothwell had one hit and walked twice for the Oilers.

In the opener, the Oilers fought back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game only to see the Yellowjack­ets take the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Trailing 3-0, the Oilers scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to get back on even terms.

Josh Saulsbury started the fifth with single and stole second.

With two outs, Baylor Brumley, who was 4-for-4 with a stolen base and one run scored, hit a 0-2 pitch to right-center for an RBI single to get the Oilers on the scoreboard.

Brumley then stole second and scored on a base hit to left-center by Jacob Eubanks to make it 3-2.

The Oilers took advantage of a miscue to tie the game in the sixth.

Ty Disotell reached on an error with one out and stole second, and with two outs, Saulsbury tied the game with a run-scoring single to center.

However, Sheridan took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on the strength of three hits and a walk.

The Oilers stranded six runners on base in the first three innings and 11 in the game.

Brumley walked one and struck out five in two innings as the starter. He allowed two hits and three first-inning runs, all of which were unearned.

Chase Brumley worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Disotell worked around two walks to work a scoreless frame with no hits or strikeouts.

Saulsbury (2-1) allowed the three runs in the sixth to take the loss. He allowed three hits with two of the three runs being earned. He walked one and struck out two.

Saulsbury joined Baylor Brumley with a multi-hit performanc­e, finishing 2-for-3 with a stolen base, one run scored and one RBI.

Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a walk and one RBI, while Disotell was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored.

Braden Doherty was 1-for-4 with a stolen base and Jackson Cook was 1-for-2 to round out the Oilers’ attack.

The Oilers will host Sheridan in a doublehead­er today at Junction City at 2 p.m.
