LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

-

To the Editor:

Here I am again complaining about our dusty and pothole road that Union County Highway created almost three years ago. They put dirty gravel in the potholes. All it accomplished was a dust storm when the big oil trucks run and that's a lot.

I called my JP Cecil Polk on 5/12/20. He said he calls Loftin every time I call him. I called Jeff Orr (Union County Highway) on 5/18/2020. He said he would come out and look at it but after three days of rain it is first a muddy mess. I told him after it dried out it was dust just in case he didn't know it.

I call Loftin 6/9/20. He also said he would come out and look at it. I called Loftin's office again on 6/16/20. I was told he wasn't in but she would have him call me. He did not call.

Union County Highway came out on 6/23/20 and put more red dirt and gravel on it and graded it uphill, closer to the houses. This wasn't just mean, it was mean and evil.

On 6/24/20 I called Polk and Loftin to complain but neither answered. I even left messages on both of their voicemails. If they would be out here when the oil trucks ran, maybe, just maybe, they wouldn't be so heartless. They keep promising to overlay the road but it doesn't happen.

To the Editor:

I'm not one who frequently submits letters to the newspaper. My opinions and observations are not so profound or unique that I need to grace others with my thoughts. There is something going on in our country, however, that is really disturbing and, to me, very misguided.

I am constantly seeing or reading about the disrespect and outright hate for those in law enforcement. Yes, there have been some horrible and indefensible actions committed by a very small percentage of those in law enforcement across our country. And yes, they should be held accountable, but let's keep things in perspective. Across our nation there are hundreds of thousands of men and women working in law enforcement. The vast majority of these are dedicated, professional public servants. Now, let's narrow our focus to the local level – El Dorado and Union County.

We are blessed with quality and character in those working locally in law enforcement. I thank God for the El Dorado

Police Department and the Union County Sheriff's office and personnel. We are so fortunate to have two experienced and professional men in charge: Kenny Hickman with the EPD and Ricky Roberts with the UCSO. These men expect those working under them to always maintain a professional approach to their jobs. They are expected to be fair and empathetic to those whom they serve.

While I'm singing the praises of our local law enforcement departments, I don't want to forget that other critical group of first responders. The El Dorado Fire Department under the leadership of Chief Chad Mosby. These are the men and women who will run into a burning building for you if needed.

So, in summation, yes, there are going to be those few in any profession who go off the rails and deserve total accountability and responsibility for their actions. To blame or denigrate everyone else in that profession is absurd and unfair. Remember, while we're safely sitting in our homes or late at night while we're soundly sleeping in our beds, these dedicated guardians are looking out for us. Again, I thank God for each one. To the Editor:

COVID-19 has taken its course against the world. The world and the Church has been put on notice. It is the year 2020 and a plague is upon the world. It is bringing people together and families together in a fight to survive. The cry of the unborn has reached the ears of God. Loving thy neighbor has taken a backward step.

There is a time and a purpose for everything under the sun. A time for peace and a time for war, etc. People are being raised up all around the world against evil and unrighteousness.

The world is at a brink now. The solution: treat each other right: from the top of the ladder on down to the bottom. If you love your neighbor and not provoke him or her or tangle with things that belong to them, you do well. Oh yeah, stop killing unborn babies with your laws. The United States has a law that legally says you can kill the unborn. The law is called Roe vs. Wade.

How long and how bad COVID-19 hands around the United States depends on the people of the United States.

Have a good day. Kenneth Murphy, El Dorado
