County reports 8 new cases
The Arkansas Department of Health reported eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Union County Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of cases identified in the county to 369.
The number of reported recoveries in Union County increased by
four Sunday to reach 300. Active COVID19 cases in the county correspondingly increased by four from Saturday to 54, representing 14.63% of the local cumulative case total.
No new local deaths attributable to the virus were reported Sunday. Fifteen Union County residents have died as a result of COVID-19.
The ADH reported 18 new negative test results returned from Union County Sunday, indicating a one-day local positivity rate of 30.76% based on the numbers of new test results and cases reported. In all, 4,174 tests have returned from Union County, with 3,805 negatives, indicating an overall local positivity rate of 8.84%.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Arkansas grew by 642 to reach 38,623 Sunday. Of those, 31,622 were considered recovered, leaving 6,600 cases — 17.08% — active statewide.
The deaths of two Arkansans resulting from COVID-19 were reported Sunday, bringing the state’s death toll to 401, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.03%. Those who have died as a result of the virus represent .013% of the state’s population, based on the latest United States Census Bureau estimates, while those who have contracted the virus represent 1.27% of the state’s population.
There were 480 Arkansans hospitalized due to COVID-19 Sunday, up one from Saturday, and 103 on ventilator support, down two from Saturday.
According to the ADH, 6,869 new tests had been reported to the department by Sunday, indicating a one-day positivity rate for the state of 9.34% based on the numbers of new tests and cases reported. Since the state began testing for COVID-19, 470,267 tests have been reported to the ADH, with 438,644 negatives, indicating an overall positivity rate for the state of 8.21%.
Johns Hopkins University reported 4,225,600 COVID-19 cases in the U.S. Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Of those, 1,279,414 were considered recovered Sunday, leaving 2,799,355 cases — 66.24% — active nationwide. There had been 146,831 deaths attributable to the virus by Sunday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.47%.
According to Johns Hopkins, COVID19 cases topped 16 million worldwide Sunday, with 16,155,305 reported Sunday afternoon. Of those, 9,304,676 were considered recovered, leaving 6,203,531 cases — 38.39% — active around the world. There had been 647,098 deaths attributable to the virus by Sunday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 4%.
