Three new COVID cases in area reported; active cases now at 74

An Arkansas Department of Health spokespers­on said there were 433 cumulative COVID-19 cases in Union Conunty Sunday, representi­ng an increase of three from Saturday.

Of those, 343 were considered recovered on Sunday, an increase of five from Saturday. There were 74 cases still considered active, down two from Saturday. Active cases represente­d 17.09% of the total number of cases that had been identified in the county Sunday.

No new local deaths attributab­le to COVID-19 were reported Sunday. Sixteen Union County residents have died as a result of the virus.

The ADH's online COVID-19 dashboard, where up-to-date testing informatio­n is provided, had not been updated by press time Sunday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Arkansas grew by 637 to reach 43,810 on Sunday. Of those, 36,576 were considered recovered, leaving 6,770 cases — 15.45% of the state's cumulative number of cases — active statewide.

The deaths of six Arkansans resulting from COVID-19 were reported Sunday, bringing the state's death toll to 464, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.05%. On Saturday, the number of new deaths attributab­le to the virus was initially reported at seven to make 460 total; it was amended later to reflect only five deaths and a death toll of 458.

There were 515 Arkansans hospitaliz­ed due to the virus on Sunday, an increase of 16 from Saturday. There were 106 Arkansans on ventilator support, an increase of two from Saturday.

According to the ADH, 5,410 COVID-19 tests were performed between

Saturday and Sunday.

According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 4,662,860 COVID-19 cases in the United States at 6:10 p.m. Sunday. Of those, 1,461,885 were considered recovered, leaving 3,046,142 cases — 65.32% — active nationwide. There had been 154,833 deaths attributab­le to the virus in the U.S. by Sunday, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.32%.

Johns Hopkins reported 17,960,538 COVID-19 cases worldwide Sunday afternoon. Of those, 10,625,858 were considered recovered, leaving 6,647,650 cases — 37.01% — active around the world on Sunday. There had been 687,030 deaths attributab­le to the virus by Sunday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 3.82%.
