Parkers Chapel emphasizes tempo

Tempo was the primary focus for Parkers Chapel during their opening practice Monday night.

“Just learning how to practice at the tempo we want to practice at,” Parkers Chapel coach Elliot Jacobs said. “We installed a few things offensively and defensively. Our focus was just hustling at every chance we get. The other key thing we focused on was telling the kids, ‘This could be the last day we get to do this.' As a coach, it's a cliché, we say a lot of times, but nowadays when you say it, it means something. We want our kids to understand that tomorrow isn't guaranteed for them to have sports in their lives, so they need to treat every day like it's their last and get better each day.”

Jacobs was pleased with the Trojans' first day of work.

“It was a good day for us,” Jacobs said. “It was good to get a sense of normalcy back in our lives. The kids worked hard. It was all around a good day.”

Jacobs said he had about 50 players total turnout between junior high and senior high, and he was happy with PC's numbers.

“We are. We have one kid that is doing his basic training stuff, so we're proud of him and excited for what he is doing for our country,” Jacobs said. “I have a couple of junior high kids that are on vacation, but having 25 kids and they don't have to show up is pretty good for us.”

Jacobs said Tuesday's workout would follow a similar script to Monday's.

“Kind of the same format as yesterday since we're just in helmets,” Jacobs said. “We'll install a few more things offensively and defensively and see if we can carry over what we learned yesterday into today, plus learning new things when we get ready for Wednesday when we put shoulder pads on.”
